It's a Tokyo HyPower 1K so my impressions are somehow biased by that amplifier This one was returned to me by a customer who didn't liked the LED's he expected to be rounded like on Acom What I do like most of this model is the honesty of the manufacturer. This means that the tube is treated right and it's life will be longer than in ACOM where the tube is tortured.
None of them has "ALC mod" and I never received a complain about my signal. I often monitor my signal on various foreign WebSDR's and the signal is clear and nice.
The controls are very neat and a little piece of paper with the specific position for the two knobs for the bands I am working often is great help.
In fact, I can change the 40 and 20m without making any adjustments, my antenna is perfectly tuned on this bands so I only change the bands on the amplifier. On the higher bands, a gear might be usefull but I understand that was a compromise for a low price. About two times I tripped the protections when I forget to change the band on the amplifier; no problem at all It is built like a tank but also have a very appealing aspect on the desk; it's simply elegant!

Well, you can add a swtich on the TX cable but I cannot undersand why it is so hard to put a line in the code to OPER only after it is ready warm? No gear. Reviews Home. I am using this Amplifier now for two years. Tuning is very easy and quick. Nice job from Acom factory. I did a lot of research on various amplifiers that would suit the Australian w limit.
I could have purchased many more powerful amplifiers, but also required an amp that could be taken out for field days and provide a clean output. The added bonus was the Australian dealer provided a 1 year warranty on tubes and 2 years on the amp according to their website.
The ACOM does all of the above. Within a month of purchase I called Val with an issue, he said a tube had died. I sent the Amp back to the Australian dealer for repair. I did not see the Amp again for several months for a "tube" replacement.
Another tube died maybe 2 months later. Val had sent me the tube replacement instructions, so instead of wasting several months again on the tube "warranty" through the Australian dealer, I replaced them myself at my own cost. I found that the tubes installed were cheap chinese branded and the Australian Authorised dealer had damaged the left hand socket during the previous tube replacement.
But when the amp is working it is everything I expect. This is not an indication of the Acom build quality, or specifications. I suspect it is the cheap tubes provided. The ACOM is going strong after quality tubes were installed. It costs me more with tubes than the amplifier.
I'm looking for stronger Tubes, of course NOT chinese, but not sur others would work longer. I wanted an amplifier, simple, reliable and robust. I hesitated with the Acom but the salesman advised me on I think I'd take the because it was tested without a more "youthful indiscretion". Fan is super quite better than on the PW1.
