It has onstar and just the basic speaker system. I recently went to my local audio store to get a kicker system installed in it. The plans were to have a 5 channel amp that ran all 4 door speakers and 2 subs. After installation of the amp we put the car back together and when we put in the key our ears almost started bleeding.

The door chime from the car was amplified and it was very loud. The installer seemed stumped, and come to find out he was. I have since went to two other audio shops who come to the same conclusion they do not know what to do but replace the factory radio unit.

I am trying to keep this truck looking as stock as possible, and want to keep the factory radio unit. So as of know I have a kicker zx I still want to replace the 4 door speakers and amp them up to match the subs.

I am open for any help as long as the stock radio stays in. Please give me any information you may have that can help me or any ideas of ways to boost up the sound of the radio even if it is not with an amp. Oct 9, 0 Ohio U. I would find a wire diagram of your truck. I would look first to see if there is a fuse or a relay you could pull to shut off the chime. If that doesn't work look for the wire that it is coming in to on the head unit and cut it. NeverEnuffBass Got Bass?

Dec 4, 3, 0 Greenwich, CT. Yes the chime is coming from the front driver side speaker. How would I go about finding a wiring diagram for the trucks? Apr 12, 2, 2 Houston. Why in the hell would you replace all the speakers and an amp but leave the factory deck??? Sounds like something is wired wrong in the back of the deck.

Sep 7, 18, Charlotte, NC. Nov 8, 4 Waite Park, MN. Does your volume knob work on your factory deck as it should? Many times if you have an amplified system and don't replace the factory deck with something that can control your volume you will have problems.

On many gm amplified systems the volume is only conected by a data line to the amp sending a data signal to control volume. If they bypassed your factory amp instead of going after it for signal you can have problems with the chimes and volume control. Jan 3, 2, 0 Bridgeton, NJ.

PM to ya the sooner you read the sooner we can get started lol. Jan 24, 0 parts unknown. I think it use to be press and hold the number 6 on the deck. Maybe number 1. Look in manual. Also you said you had 4 speakers. If that is the case take the outputs off of rear speakers to use as inputs to the Loc. Then take one of your stock speakers and hide in under the dash or under the seat and hook it up to the drivers door channel of the factory amp.

This way the chimes will play at same volume as stock. Also if you hookup like that place your fader to the rear and the speaker that you use as a chime will only work for chimes and won't play music. Aug 22, 39, Piney Hills of Louisiana.

Thanks for all the help but I plan to do the install by myself, I need some details about how to do this. What is the LOC that you all speak of. Thanks for the help just add as much detail as possible.

The chime is supposed to be there, what you did not and the installer did not count on is a way to get rid of it. It has nothing to do with a LOC or gain or the price of rice in china. If you want to retain the head unit and nothing wrong with doing that at all , you need to do some minor rewiring. A LOC is the interface between the factory radio and the new amplifier. You do not want to get rid of the chime, you need it.

To do this you need the advanced LOC and the advice that was correctly given above by denali Disconnect the front speaker outputs from the factory cd player to whatever they are connected to. Disconnect all rca inputs from your new amp. Turn the stereo on, leave the door open or lights on, your chime should work as per normal meaning as it did before you installed the new stereo , just coming from a slightly different location.

Reconnect the rca cables at the amp they were disconnected to allow for the test only. Next, install the LC6i or similar device. It needs to be wired to the rear outputs of the stock cd player. It will give you a front, rear and subwoofer output to go to the amp.

The LC6i also acts as a line driver, this will allow you to turn the gain right down on the amp as well. You will not have fading capability and no need for it either but you can set the output levels on the LC6i to adjust for the necessary difference in output levels from front to rear to sub.

This will solve the loud chime issue and bring the system to life for you. Nov 7, 0 Montpelier, IN. Create an account or login to comment You must be a member in order to leave a comment Create account Create an account on our community. It's easy! Log in Already have an account?

Speakers Not Working

From buying research to owner support, join 1. I have the non-Bose set-up, however they do have the tweeters connected facing towards the windshield. If I was to swap my front speakers to aftermarket, would I lose the tweeter connection? Would there be any way to keep it active, or would I have to swap out the stock tweeter as well? What are the size of the stock speakers in the door? I replaced my door speakers and the tweeters still worked but when i installed my amp on my highs the stock tweeter eventually blew and affected the door speaker. When i turned the volume up the tweeter and door speaker would cut off.

They'll create a lot of midbass when the door is sealed so, if anything, only throw in midbass (no tweeter) speakers, IMO. I do not think.
