If you have a surround receiver, connecting a subwoofer is easy. In a 2-channel setup, it's often not. High-end audiophiles are a conservative crowd. Both features are a given on surround receivers regardless of price class. On stereo amplifiers, subwoofer output and active crossover support are often missing. To get the most of your subwoofer, you should have a fairly high crossover, typically around 80hz.

Ideally the solution would utilise as simple a signal path as possible, all in the analogue domain. Any thoughts or specific kit you would recommend? Any thoughts? Look at the miniDSP 2x4 active crossover. Worked a treat with a bit of volume tweaking on source, sub and amp to balance it up. There defo more adjustment required and it only works with single source but the principle seems sound.

Posted on Friday, July 09, - GMT I know there are a lot of threads on this, but try as I might I can't make quite get the answer to the question of how to set up a system that has both a selectable crossover frequency filter on the amp NAD M3 and sub-woofer Dynaudio MC Do you set both up to the same setting? Do you set the amp at full range and the sub-woofer at the rated frequency response of the speakers Paradigm Studio V5 in this case, with a rated response rate of 20hz at the low end. Any help in the basics of setting this up would be greatly appreciated. My suggestion would be to run the Paradigms full range,definately, and crossover the sub.

Passive high pass filter for small 2. Hi Just carrying on with the audio tinkering. I set the system up with REW and can definitely hear the improvement in sound reproduction bass but wanted to tinker with a simple DIY passive high pass filter between the preamp and integrated amp or integrated amp and speaker , that I recently built. The REL currently takes a parallel signal from the speaker terminals in the integrated amp and it has its own crossover controls perhaps this can be changed to the preamp outs, before any filter. I have seen single capacitors used in this type of application with claims of improved sound.
