They eliminate the need for amplifiers and plug directly into the wall. Recently refinished using furniture grade cherry wood veneers they have a four coat lacquer finish. They have also received new sonically transparent grills and upgraded RCA connectors. The result is a very contemporary and decor friendly speaker.
The drivers and internal amps were inspected and not modified as they are in full working order. This is an audiophile quality full range speaker system.
Each speaker has two separate 70 watt Class AA amplifiers-one for bass, one for the tweeter- total watts. Unique features include adjustable switches for music sensing, free standing or near wall placement, float-able chassis ground and 10 adjustable response curves to fit room acoustics making them very flexible.
They are designed for home, not studio use, unlike most active speakers so will match well with all all home stereo components. Made in Britain Given the built in amplifiers they weigh about 30 lbs. Dave - they are the only vents on the speakers so , while no expert, I presume they are as you say. While I've flirted with replacing them, I just can't find a real reason why I should.
I drive their onboard amps with an Audio Research pre. I can testify to Meridian's build quality, engineering and sound. At the asking price, this is a stupendous buy.
They will play louder and cleaner than you might imagine looking at their size and their dynamic capabilities can be very satifying in up to a medium size room I would venture.

By Geoff , March 12, in 2 Channel. A friend has just bought and repaired a set of old Meridian M20 active speakers which he may be selling on. They sounded a bit bass heavy to my ear but that might be due to not being in enough free space , the source we were using or indeed the dip switch settings on the speakers. I know they're getting on a but now but wondered if anyone had any success with them on a decent source. Owned a pair of the original M2's back in the early eighties, I don't recollect them having too much bass, not enough if anything.
$2000 budget...What would You buy ?
This pair of superb sounding Meridian M20 Active Loudspeakers have come to us via a part exchange and come with a 6 month warranty. They have been tested and are in full working order. Both speakers are in good cosmetic condition with only a few minor marks. However both grills have some damage please see photos.
