Sonos lossless 97
A wireless multiroom speaker system is the easiest way to listen to music, podcasts, and other audio entertainment in more than one room at a time, and we think Sonos is the best option. It supports the widest variety of streaming services, the speakers sound great, and its apps are practically foolproof. The competition is catching up, but Sonos is still the most complete and reliable package overall. The Sonos One sounds great and is an affordable entry point to the Sonos system. The Sonos Five easily fills large spaces with full-range, detailed sound comparable to that of nice bookshelf speakers.

The compact overall package is also convincing: Dolby Atmos and the in-house Trueplay are part of the game and are intended to give the home entertainment program more pep. Sonos is known for speakers of all sizes, sound bars and subwoofers.
The cooperation with the furniture giant IKEA should also be familiar to many. One focus of the audio manufacturer from California is the networking of the individual loudspeakers to form a so-called multiroom system. Several loudspeakers can be controlled at the same time.
With the second generation of the Beam Soundbar, Sonos is bringing another smart device onto the market that scores with price performance, balanced sound and a stylish design. But back to the beginning: In the usual Sonos fashion, the loudspeaker is packed in a gray-brown cardboard box.
The unpacking experience is definitely on a high level again, which could put a smile on the lips of many consumers even before they are switched on for the first time. The soundbar is really nice. Available in matte black and matte white, the device should fit most households. According to the manufacturer, the polycarbonate surface should be less sensitive to damage and also easy to clean. On the device itself there are only a few basic controls that are used by touch.
Unpacked and plugged in, there were initially minor difficulties when starting the system for the first time: In order to use the soundbar, an associated app must be installed, as the beam is largely controlled via the smartphone. A Sonos account must also be created. While this still worked smoothly, the connection between the device and smartphone was not quite as smooth.
A connection should be established via NFC, but the Oneplus brand Android smartphone used made no move to connect. Only the second attempt with another smartphone, an iPhone, worked — but then straight away.
The device is connected to the television using the HDMI cable supplied. An adapter for an optical cable is also included in the packaging, should this be required.
When used correctly, the app will notify when Atmos sound is playing. The Trueplay function measures the acoustics of the room and thus adapts the sound to the environment. Sonos wants to offer the best audio quality in every situation. However, a supported mobile device with iOS is required for this. The Sonos Beam does not use Bluetooth. The Night Sound function is intended to reduce loud effects in order to enable a nightly TV experience where others should not be disturbed.
Numerous services can be added via the app. About the sound: Sonos Beam inspires when you hear it for the first time. Balanced sound with strong bass and fine highs offer the consumer a good listening experience. This can be fine-tuned via the app, although a full equalizer is missing. Only the highly praised Dolby Atmos will probably not knock anyone off their feet — despite the significant improvement in the room distribution: the speakers are only directed towards the front, which is not quite enough for total all-round sound, especially from above.
Nevertheless, the soundbar offers an impressive overall package for euros at the market launch. We especially liked the good integration of the language assistants. For example, streaming services like Spotify could be started effortlessly from anywhere in the home.
With the multitude of music streaming sources supported, everyone should find something and the compact size and very good workmanship are further pluses. The device has been available in Austria since October 5th. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. The second generation of the Sonos Beam has also been available in Austria since October 5th.
