As exciting and flamboyant as it is, the S2 has too many caveats when it comes to dynamics and cohesiveness for us to recommend it over similarly priced competitors. Its build is by no means one of the forerunners anymore, but the silver also available in black aluminium casing is smart and a clean frontage is complemented by a relatively long, easily readable electric-blue-on-black display. Coaxial and Toslink optical digital outputs accompany a pair of analogue outputs and they also survive the test of time — which is more than we can say for the severely outdated remote. It feels cheap to use and it took us a while to navigate around the crowded cluster of untidy, same-sized buttons. The CD tray mechanism is a bit flimsy too and sounds a bit primitive when loading a disc. What we admired about the original version was how it manifested an "exhilarating sound" and "exciting dynamics". True to this day, the player is certainly not shy.

E xposure is a hardcore company from Great Britain. It is a fairy small brand, housed in the country behind the Channel, which designs and manufactures its devices there, in Portslade, East Sussex County. It was then, when John Farlowe, the founder of Exposure, decided to transfer his experience from the recording studios, where he cooperated with David Bowie and Pink Floyd, among others, to the hi-fi world. But other companies tend to follow the same path, for example Marantz which exchanged its gear to S2 versions or Cambridge Audio the new V2 series. Unfortunately in the materials received from the Polish Exposure distributor, the Warsaw based company Decibel all the Exposure novelties can be found HERE there is no information about changes made in the new series. We only know, that the new S2 version has no special markings on the front panel, and that it looks identically like the S. At the time the test was being prepared, there was no mention about the new series on the Exposure web page. But fortunately, together with the new player I did also get a new catalog, where some information could be found.

Buoyed by its success, British brand Exposure tells us that its mid-range integrated amp, the S2, is also getting the same upgrade treatment. Exposure 2010S Power Amplifier
August 3, — British hi-fi brand Exposure , renowned for creating high-performance audio components with an impressively affordable price tag, is updating its much-loved range to add fresh features for the latest audiophile needs. Now being released in the US is the S2-D, an upgraded version of the classic S2 integrated amplifier. Like its predecessor, the new S2-D comes with six line level inputs. However, one of these is now a direct AV input with fixed gain, to enable integration within a surround sound system. Special high-quality capacitors are used in the signal path, and the circuit topology has been mapped with a view to keeping signal and power supply paths short. The power supply is a critical feature of any amplifier and in the S2-D an entirely custom Watt torodal power transformer feeds two large reservoir capacitors to provide ample power for unrestricted dynamic range.
Intent is never lacking, listening time, writing time and product availability are the three most significant constraints when deciding what to cover. Many folk presume that all products are always available to me. Not so.
