It sounds great to me when it works better range than my Marantz , but I've got enough side projects at the moment if this is a big fix.

Since you get the amp section to play, measure the DC offset per the DC offset sticky at the top of this forum, and tell us what you see. The polarity of my multimeter isn't wrong.

I'm guessing, but there might be broken solder joints, general broken connections, etc, due to the drop damage you saw. Deciding if it's worth fixing is up to you. It actually looks like a short, which is worrisome. The normal floating voltage on my multimeter is several hundred. It seems like a fun bit of work. Really, I think once I find the source of the blackout it'll be an easy fix. I do like the sound so maybe it is worth it.

Those'll need to go I guess. Asking tech questions here is fine. Have you tried cleaning the controls and switches? Hmm, you say your knock on the parts on the board, and it works? Bad connections, maybe even bad solder connections. Since it may have been dropped, look at the larger parts on the boards that don't have support.

Inspect all the solder for breaks, really. Well, I was reading the manual. It recommends cleaning the relay which is right next to the transistors. Dirty relay makes perfect sense since turning the unit on and off will sometimes re-engage one or both of the channels. I just need to figure out how to get that tricky plastic cover off without cracking it. Definitely not de-soldering it just for that. Haven't cleaned anything yet.

Likely a good thing to do. Despite the fall, everything seems fine. No cracked boards, fuses intact, etc. There may be some hard to find damage, but there aren't any particularly heavy components that aren't tied down. I won't rule out that possibility.

The pre-amp diagnosis is a little bleaker "Check all transistors and capacitors" according to the manual. Lots of the electrolytics seem to have leaked onto the board now that I look close. Either that or they're glued down, but the film seems too thin for that. I'll see if I can get a picture. I'll probably go onto Digikey and pick up some replacements. Been looking for an excuse to order from them lately.

The goo you see is likely assembly glue on the capacitors. Some types of that stuff becomes corrosive over time. IPA is fine for electronics, make sure it evaporates. Put some on a business card and clean the relay contacts with it. Good call on cleaning things out ryuuoh!

Everything seems to mostly work. Needs yet more cleaning and troubleshooting to figure out some oddities, but much improved. Tried cleaning out the relay, and for the heck of it, reflowed some solder joints that looked vaguely suspect. Seems to have made a world of difference. Two issues remain though. The first is that the protection circuit is a little out of whack.

The main magnet of the relay doesn't pull hard enough on the reed to overcome the smaller magnets on at the base of the switch. I can live with that. Both the pre and the main amps are working now. Might try tuning the power amp over the weekend as the directions for doing so are very straightforward in the service manual two sets of jumpers, tune until both sets are at 6.
