Beolab 90 01

Business is tough. Staying in business for 90 years is tougher. One way they chose to celebrate is by designing a new speaker, appropriately named BeoLab 90 it comes equipped with a host of new technologies. This technology help to reduce the impact sounds get from hitting walls, furniture and other things in a room. Another highlighted feature is the control of the width and direction of the sound named Beam Width Control. What this basically does is giving you the control to easily change listening experience from a preferred small area like your living room when you watch TV to a larger area like the entire ground floor when you are having a party.

B&O's colossal BeoLab 90 loudspeakers pump out 8,200 watts, cost $40K

By atomic , June 5, in 2 Channel. Bumped into these magnificent speakers the other day,the truly ground breaking and audiophile prejudice smashing Beolab These babies are purely engineering driven master pieces.

I have not heard them yet. Big and loud, and not particularly enjoyable. The room was terrible for them - all glass and wooden floors - but give them a decent room and they might be a lot better.

As a past owner of Beolab 5s, I can say that the room correction they have built in is very effective within reason! Harbeth still have the edge with vocals though. Slightly off topic, but Just the job for your lounge, and it's local to me too. Had I not bought a pair of 's last year, I would've been after this system, like a rat up a drainpipe. Or should that be a rat up an organ pipe. Have to say that after this comment I am puzzled.

Given the below comments I can only presume that that statement is false and the room does badly limit the ability of this speaker. The other conclusion is that the Dealer has not properly set the speakers up in the Demo room which does not say much for their competence and the chances they have of selling a pair.

Looked like a series of Flying Saucers landing one on top of the other and they each had a microphone that came out and did a sound test to adjust and compensate for the room worked very well so long as you only did one speaker at a time as if you activated them together then they messed up.

These units did indeed sound excellent and worked consistently in every different room I heard them in and once fully adjusted for your preference sounded excellent. So little puzzled. Shame really as it would be fun just to see what can be done. They don't resonate in sympathy with the room and they will give great clean bass in virtually any environment. I think they look great!

And you won't need to live in a padded cell to get great in room music. No hifi shrine, just two speakers. I don't see many of our wife's or girlfriends moaning about that. If if you do go and listen to them take some bass heavy music with plenty of LF content.

I think you all would be amazed at what you hear. I heard them in Munich too and along with the Raidho room they were the standout.

Just superb. I'll likely never be able to afford a pair of these but I can dream??? They're coming Friday The Bath branch same guys as run the Cardiff franchise have a pair of 90s - looking forward to heading over for a longer listen soon.

I had a pair of the speakers you mention - Beolab 5 - and they were excellent - btw the room correction is supposed to be done individually.

Never tried them in a wood and glass room though When I heard them I was simply not that impressed. Regardless of the fancy room correction they use, they can't deliver their best in the worst rooms. The looks are a matter of taste. I thought they looked a bit undesigned, like they'd just stretched black fabric over it to cover the drivers up, unlike the previous Beolab 5 which still look great.

They use the 'spare' drivers to cancel reflected sound and to create a virtual p oint source all the sound comes from the front if you want it to so they can indeed work in any room, they even can tackle standing waves with their roo m correction and parametric EQ.

Are lifestyle , and audiophile exclusive design terms from one another? Could either muscle out the other when it comes to loudspeaker design or any high-fidelity product for that matter? I think yes, and it can certainly go either way. At the other end of the spectrum, lifestyle-oriented hi-fi designers are meant to focus on the looks of a product form , and integrating it into a home environment, with ultimate fidelity perhaps suffering in deference to that mandate. But could we consider them an audiophile company? With their grilles in place the BeoLab 90 are not as visually imposing as one would think. But at the time they had not had their basic DSP options set up, so Chris Jones asked if I could come back for a listen when they had the 90s set up proper-like.

Just checked out the Anya. I saw one of Tom Petty's shows on that tour. It sounded fantastic. Home audio is always behind pro it seems. And if the audiofools have their way we will keep seeing the same old technology wrapped up in new shiny boxes. I'll make the assumption that we will eventually be experimenting with this technology in diy. Last edited by Mindsource; 9th January at PM.
