Playmaster amplifier wiring
Product ID: Product Description Full: Electronics Australia they would periodically release designs and sell them in kit form under the name Playmaster. Ranging in valve and solid state equipment this one is solid state , a lot of their earlier work was with Guitar Amps and PA amps, however they did do HiFi as well as this amplifier. Quite beautifully built, brush aluminum faceplate, Solid machined aluminum knobs, and a nice simple design that's not cluttered.

The whole idea for this website was to be a little meeting spot on the Internet for those who like to build their own guitar amps and instruments. The top plate caps make it look like something out of Dr. Fortunately it sounds better than it looks. The 6DQ6 is more or less the equivalent of the more common 6L6; the pinout is even the same, except the DQ has a top cap connection for the plate, instead of the 6L6s pin-3 connection.
There is also a lower-power counterpart, the 6BQ6 , which is a 6V6 equivalent with a top plate cap. I have to give a word of thanks to Frank Phillipse for building and sharing his tube data website. Australian guitar and PA amp manufacturers including Goldentone and Playmaster used them in a number of models because they were easier and cheaper to get than 6L6s.
If you wander about the Australian Valve Amps website, you can find some pictures and schematics for these amps. More on that component in another post. Output transformer is a 40W Weber W As for the tone? Warm, Bassy. Plenty of clean headroom at low to middle volumes. Nice, tight breakup when cranked. Right now, its outputting somewhere in the W range. Follow Following. Mutt Amps. Sign me up. Already have a WordPress. Log in now. Loading Comments Email Required Name Required Website. Phillips chronic dys- Information Centre was one particularly long-running bedsore with gross error piled on gross error, month after month; torrents of e-mails about endless bloopers on very basic theory. By the end there was even a website devoted to Phillips-isms. If you look at period mastheads you should see a small incantation after his name - he was actually qualified in the art of electronics. I don't know if Williams was a musician but my surmise is that he played a console organ at home.

My phono input does not work however, all the other inputs are fine. I have misplaced my schematic drawing and it has worked faultlessly since I assmbled it from a kit in the mid 70's. Does anyone out there have a copy of the schematic they could scan and post? All is well as I have now found the assembly manual. Now, to fix the problem of no output of the phono into the preamp. If anyone needs a copy of the manual, please email me at blues gmail.
I was given this amplifer in payment for repairing a friends Ham Transceiver. I believe it was built about or so. Would anyone have a schematic for this amp?
David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally.
