If you are reading this you know exactly what you are looking at so let me begin. I picked these up a few years ago from a friend of mine who had them in his basement. It was in his family for years and was just picking up space and he wasn't into audio. I was more than trilled to actually have a pair of these gems in my possession. The speaker cabinets also have the original serial tags that match card. Both crossover cards are in full operational state and I can see that one of the crossover cards was repaired by a top notch vintage electronics firm in New York City years ago.
The tag is still on board if you need to investigate work done on unit. So I think you will have enough documentation to trace history of these units if you so choose. As you can see from pictures they have the original stands. The units do NOT have any add-ons, like the bi-amps cards or LPM power meter modules but if you were ever so lucky to get your hands on them, these speakers would be exceptional. All drivers are in great condition.
I've had them hooked up and playing since then and they sound great. All drivers are in great shape and both crossover cards work.
For speakers these age, the only issue I've come across with these units is that you may sometimes have to giggle the six prong connector into the crossover connector on card to get all drivers playing, but once they are playing they don't have to be messed with.
I've known this to be an issue with these model speakers that can be fixed by just soldering connectors directly to board. Apart from that as you will see from the pictures, the walnut cabinets of both units have random scratches, which for an almost 40 year old pair of speakers is not bad. I believe they can be refinished and brought back to top shape if so desired.
The speaker grills are in good shape, with no tears. One of the grill pegs on one of units is stuck in hole on one of the units but grill goes on and stays on with no issue. I would rather not sell them just because of their fantastic sound, but I know there is a fan base out there that can give these speakers the attention and work they need to restore to their full glory.
I don't have the heart to mess with the connectors to the crossover in terms of soldering, etc. The sound alone of these things has kept me from selling them over the last couple years but I think it's time I moved on. Please note: These suckers are about pounds each and I will absolutely NOT ship these under any circumstances. They will have to be removed up a flight of stairs from a basement area. I almost broke my finger bringing these speakers into my house years ago, I'm not touching them again, so if you intend to get these, make sure you have two people.
I think I've represented the speakers as best I can. If you buy the speakers, and on pickup day, the speakers are not what I described, you can leave them and I will refund your money promptly. Condition: Pair of ADS L speakers from , walnut cabinets have scratches but apart from that speakers are in great condition for their age.
