Pros an cons regarding bridging amplifiers. Thread starter Snarfie Start date Jul 16, I'm planning to buy another NAD C an want to bridge both of them. So 8 ohm will be 4ohm. What are the implications bridging amplifiers?. For instance could it mean that besides getting on the plus side a double amount of power but on the minus side my Low frequencies will be compromised and both amplifiers will get quite hot that is not what i aming at. Some confusion here.

Is it mabey better to buy an amplifier with double amount of elco capacity than the NAD C which has Will i hear between the 2 of them any difference?.

Last edited: Jul 16, When the amp can drive 4 Ohm you can use it bridged with an 8 Ohm speaker. So the impedance needs to be double that of the lowest allowed impedance. Snarfie said:. Click to expand Bridging an amplifier won't change that. Depending on the used speaker a more powerfull amp may be a better idea. Instead I would invest in room conditioning or roomEQ that will bring more controlled lows and batter imaging in general. It will only bring the possibility to play louder when the amps are capable Increased stereo separation is a non issue with speakers.

Completely agree with Solderdude above. The only benefit of bridging is if you're close to or are clipping the amplifier when playing 'enthusiastically'.

As mentioned above, the minimum permissible load impedance is doubled, so you need to know what the impedance characteristic of your loudspeakers is. For example, a minimum at 14kHz is less likely to upset an amplifier as there's not a lot of energy at that frequency, whilst a minimum at 80Hz could well upset the amp. Depending on your attitude to DIY, a better solution might be to remove the passive crossover and use an active crossover with the extra power amp.

The amp is spec'd 8 Ohm so bridging an 8 Ohm nominal speaker is not the best way. Your amp is already at the limit of the power rating of the speaker. I reckon you could look for an amp specified to deliver W in 8 Ohm.

There is no guarantee it will sound any different. Bridging the NAD is not a good idea and also won't deliver what you seek. Joined Feb 2, Messages 1, Likes 1, You are correct So 8 Ohm is the lowest you can use it bridged. Burst power will be higher though and could possibly reach W or so. It will not give the desired effect the OP is looking for. It will just play about 4 louder and when one is of the opinion that a DF of makes the bass sound less desirable as well.

Forum Donor. The Damping factor doubles but when still low it is inconsequential. Thanx for your input. Any amp you want to suggest. DonH56 said:. Output impedance doubles, damping factor halves typo? I know you know Agree with the rest. What an amplifier that isn't broken does: makes a small signal larger. What speakers and rooms do: convert that electrical signal into and acoustic one and deliver it to your ears. Work on the former will not help you achieve your goal.

Work on the latter will. Oh, and better recordings, of course! Given the loudspeaker and your existing amplifier specs, I don't see what an amplifier change or bridging will give you.

Unless you play so loud already that you're clipping the amp, Ye Gods! The sound is already excelent have to learn probably to be content. Did read that 2 C not bridged used to amplify bi-wierd speakers will generate a better image an thigter bass. But my speakers arn't bi- wierd. Also lot of people know for sure that replacing the main inn out solid metal jumpers with proper cables will creat a considerble difference did that but didn't hear any of a real noticeble difference.

Biggest difference by far is using room correction. A big consideration is residual noise when you bridge. It basically doubles. With big power amplifiers and sensitive speakers, it becomes an issue. Wusbag New Member. Joined Jul 17, Messages 2 Likes 0. If you can bi amp your speakers then use an amp running in stereo for each speaker. Increased power and you don't need to bridge.

Room correction at LF, if you need it, can make a huge difference. Last edited: Jul 17, You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads. Starke Sound AD4. Replies Views 22K. Yesterday at PM Shanman. Replies 26 Views 2K.

Amplifier Modes: Stereo vs Parallel vs Bridge Mono

Do you love to listen to music while driving? So, if you want to enhance and boost your experience of listening to music in your car, you can try out bridging the amp. Or maybe you have heard about bridging for the first time. Well, either way, you are in for a wonderful ride. Here, I will tell you all about bridging and how you can do it with your car amplifier. Doing something without knowing the purpose is just pointless, right? In simple terms bridging an amplifier converts the spread-out power into a single power source, so you get more power from the single source. For example, when you have a 4-channel amplifier, you can convert that to a 2-channel amplifier. This will make the 2-channel amplifier much more powerful.

Stereo, Parallel, and Bridge Mono Modes in Amplifiers

Do you need more power out of your amp? Well, one way to do that is with bridging. In this article, we will explain what bridging is and also touch on the basics of doing it. After reading this article you will know the point to bridge an amp.

Power Amplifiers in Bridge Mode

While setting up your amplifier, you may come across switches that allow you to configure the amp in different ways. The most common setup is stereo mode for using a multi-channel amplifier. Stereo is the mode you should use if you just want each channel of your amplifier to act independently. In this example of a two-channel amplifier in stereo mode, Input 1 is routed to Channel A and Input 2 is routed to Channel B. Parallel mode is similar to stereo, but slightly different. You might choose parallel mode if you wanted the same signal to be played through both amplifier channels.

How To Bridge An Amp – Info, Guide, and Diagrams

AudioControl Director and Architect series amplifiers have the capability to bridge amplifier channels together to deliver more power to your speakers. Bridging amplifier channels combines a stereo pair of channels into a single mono channel. All stereo amplifier channel pairs on Director and Architect amps are capable of being bridged. This means that a bridged amp driving an 8 ohm speaker is actually operating into a 4 ohm load. Also, make sure your speakers are rated to handle the increased power that is provided by bridging. The Architect Model bridged power rating is watts. And the Model and two channel amplifiers bridged power rating is watts. Architect Amplifier product pages here.

You could use a power amplifier of watts per channel. Connect two loudspeakers in parallel on each channel. That way, each speaker will receive watts .

Ultimate Guide on How to Connect Two Amps Together

Also, you may consider upgrading your sound system by adding an extra amplifier to make it play louder with enhanced sound quality. Most audiophiles connect multiple amps together with the aim of connecting one amplifier to the speakers and the other amplifier to the subwoofer for enhanced sound quality. Others connect multiple amplifiers for louder sound output. But how can you do this?

A stereo power amplifier is limited in its output power by two main factors - the impedance of the load and the internal power supply voltage. To obtain more power, one has limited choices - other than the purchase of a more powerful amp.

Bridging Adapter For Power Amplifiers

Generally speaking, to obtain the maximum output of a speaker to be used without clipping the amp, you can choose an amplifier that can deliver the same power as the PGM power rating of the speaker. However, your required output power differs depending on the type of source signals and required sound pressure level in addition to the speakers to be used. For example, while a momentary clipping that can hardly be felt does not generally matter, in demanding applications such as studio monitoring system, where even a brief moment of clipping is not allowed, you may be required to choose an amp with higher output power. Also, if your application is background music in an installed sound system where the required sound pressure level is low, you may choose an amp with lower output power. However, if using a lower-power amp, please be careful not to drive the amp into clipping. Even if the output power of your amp is lower than the power rating of a speaker, clipping the amp can damage the speaker driver easily.
