Phono preamps were a very mature technology last century when I stopped messing with them. A relatively inexpensive modern op amp can far exceed the performance of typical MM carts. This is an all-valve DIY 12AX7 and 12AU7 phono amplifier kit that enables you to use your moving magnet record player with your integrated amplifier. Similar concept to all designs in our Classique range, this DIY phono amplifier uses traditional design and topology which have been used and tested for many decades. You will only need one phono PCB per amplifier to power both left and right channel. We designed this DIY phono preamp kit to be in the exact same size as all other kits in the Classique range. The mounting plate , which can be ordered separately, will enable you to setup the kit as we designed it. It is worth noted that designing a phono amplifier in general is pretty tricky due to its nature.

In an update from it was pointed out that for some unknown reason, some suppliers no longer stocked 82nF capacitors, and several constructors have had difficulty sourcing them. There is an answer, and it actually improves the EQ accuracy albeit marginally. If the ohm resistors are not available from your supplier, use 2 x 1k5 resistors in parallel. Alternatively, you can use the originally specified 82nF cap with a ohm resistor. The worst case error with any of these networks is less than 0. The original network was used before E24 resistor values became commonplace ohms is an E12 value, which used to be all one could get easily. RIAA equalisation is the standard for vinyl disks. It's been in use for a long time some time around , and was 'tinkered' with by the IEC to tame the bottom end.
