If you see it again it's because something has changed so please set your preferences accordingly. Paradigm speakers for monitors. I know hifi speakers can be a big "no no" for critical listening because they're not geared for truth but for enjoyment. Those are two sets of monitors that plenty of people are content to use.

I mean, really. I owned monitor 7's for a few weeks and they were the most disappointing speaker I've ever owned, probably in large part to the high praise they get. This was years ago though. I think they were v. I really expected to be blown away but my then current speakers did everything better. Deeper bass, smoother response, more neutral. The name of those speakers escapes me now but they also began with P and were made in NY.

Anyway, I opt for the hr, which I'm also not a fan of, before the Paradigm. I just saw that there's a new, less expensive now too. They sound amazing and translate perfectly I don't know how i managed without them. If I had to mix in another room, I would take them with me. The Mackie's are very hard to get good balances on. I fought with them for years I want for nothing as far as speakers go Well, maybe those Monitor 7's I had were defective.

It would explain their lackluster sound. Last edited by Audiopool; 5th April at PM.. Reason: spelling. I used the mini 3's for a long while too, and I do like the way they sound, translate better than the reveals I have, but, I teneded to get fatigue with them, got BM15's now and the Paradigms are on my home theatre system. Killer liitle speakers. I must say though, checking things like phase on drums is so much easier on the Dyns, and the phton center is way better.

Got the Reference 20's in my home theater system Love them- best speaker in that price range around. Also bought them because I could steal them for remote gigs where I needed speakers. Never been disappointed with them.

With a bad amp, they can sound pretty horrible. My theater setup is Rotel, but when I brought them into the field, I brought Bryston and they sounded much better. I'm using the Reference 40's through a Bryston 3B ST - I still use MSP5's for cross checking - these are pretty revealing in the upper-mids but brittle up top and they make me guess in the lows. I fix what I can hear with these and then grab the overall mix with the Paradigms.

I've owned and used Paradigm Reference Esprit since or so. Also have used the Mini monitors, Reference 20 and 40, Titan and Atom, several more models over the years, including Paradigm surround speakers, center channels, and subwoofers. I have always firmly believed the brand is hands down the leader in value vs performance, they had real research and test systems in place long before most other competitors, making their own drivers and cabinets.

And I've used them with high quality amplifiers, DA converters, and cables. I have never had any success at all using any of them for mixing or recording.

They can sound great, no doubt, when listening. And can create some of the strangest mixes I've ever made. I put some Paradigms up beside the little passive Tannoy Reveal and the Tannoys were far easier for me to get even mixes.

So for my needs, hi-fi speakers are made for general playback. But I can't go back to them after trying PMC. As for mixing, I can't make a neutral production if the speakers are constantly throwing out their own strong interpretation of what the sound should be.

Marshall Simmons. I've been using the reference 40's for a long time and things have always translated very well as long as the room was adequately treated. I truely believe that the studio speakers are for accuracy and the hifi speakers are for casualy listning is a complete fallacy.

These speakers are just as accurate as any dynaudio or genelecs that i've ever worked with. Just my two cents. I agree, a good hihi speaker should be flat and accurate. Most aren't though, but neither are most studio monitors. My Studio. I have the Studio40s here as well that I use to "test" my mixes. The lower mids are nice and not as analytical as my FocalSolo6. I don't know if I would mix on them, but I'm sure once I "learned" them, they'd work fine.

I still have a pair of Studio 20's and yes you can mix on them. Power amp is important as with any of these hi-fi speakers. If you don't believe me then just listen to any Daniel Lanios mixes since it's what he's been tracking and mixing with for about 12 years now. I want to put in my two cents I know the rolands are bare bottom end but I've heard the Mackies, and the Yamahas, the NS10 powered versions, the regular NS10s, some genelecs I do notice a LOT of fatigue though, I think it's because the bass extends down to 36hz where before I was guessing below Mine are still breaking in.

I'm hearing little bitty reverb things a LOT more than I used to. It's going to take me 6 months I think before I get used to hearing so much wetness where it was lost on my cheaper speakers. I don't have any experience yet with translation but it seems like if you lean towards the too wet, that'll be just about right elsewhere.

I'm finding good translation results if I check a lot on the other monitors. Top Mentioned Manufacturers. Facebook Twitter Reddit LinkedIn.

Did you know that Paradigm loudspeakers are still designed, engineered, and crafted right here, in our headquarters just outside Toronto, Canada? They wanted to build high performance loudspeakers locally. They wanted to custom-design their speaker components based on science, not speculation. And they wanted to make them available at prices that everyone would appreciate. To do it, Jerry and Scott tapped smart university audio researchers and the detailed scientific findings from audio studies conducted by the National Research Council of Canada. Their goal was to achieve a level of performance that would erase the speaker itself from the equation. Pure, lifelike audio, uninhibited by coloration, unrestrained in its ability to translate power into sound. And to do it at a price that would allow anyone to experience this magic.

This is a story of a good deal turning out not so great, then turning out really great. I was struck one afternoon with the need to find a cheap pair of Paradigm Titans for my bedroom.

David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally.

The Canadian-made Paradigm Phantom loudspeaker is similar in basic design to the company's Titan system, but with somewhat larger drivers in a larger cabinet. Its 8-inch woofer, constructed on a die-cast aluminum frame, operates in a vented enclosure whose port is on the back of the cabinet. Except for its size and basket construction, the woofer appears to be generally similar to that of the Titan.
