BayouTiger , Jun 16, Pushpaw likes this. Pushpaw , Jun 16, Barter town is a members only area though. Location: Scottish Borders. Location: Now Denver but really Yorkshire. Member of AudioKarma myself. The Marantz seems a little expensive but it is Canada!

The vintage stuff starts to get into collector prices, especially the sansui and marantz. Jasonb , Jun 16, Maybe it's a good time to be shopping for use amps. If I was in the market, I would be all over this little gem from my local Craigslist!!! Unfortunately Hurricane Katrina destroyed our supple of local vintage pieces so items like this are rare indeed. Location: Canberra, Australia. If you want to listen to radio get a receiver. If you want the cheaper classic amp with resale potential get the NAD A.

Getting a built in Phono stage saves money up front but you can still get a separate later if you want. Try some 'Blu-tac' under them, even 'Post-It' notes help. Baba , Jun 17, Dennis and Pushpaw like this. Pushpaw , Jun 17, Jasonb , Jun 17, It's hard to get at the back of my speakers without disconnecting them. And they do sound pretty good.

Maybe I need to fiddle with placement and isolation and stuff to get them to sound better. It's really the Grado headphones outshining the speakers that makes me want to upgrade them. I really notice the difference. Hear a lot more range of sound and more clarity in the headphones.

A good example is the new Tea for the Tillerman 45rpm Analogue Productions. I put it on and it sounds great with the speakers, but with the headphones it's clear I'm getting so much more of the sound, and everything is clearer, with the instruments being better separated etc. I kind of flounder when I try to describe sound. Location: Ohio.

If it is hard to get to the back of your speakers you might be able to make an upgrade in sound by moving them away from the wall. If you post a pic of your rig you will get LOTS of suggestions. Dennis , Jun 17, Maybe your a headphone type of guy.

Never use them myself, the sound is definitely different. I know what you mean about describing sound. Basically you like it or you don't and that's what matters.

With headphones the sound is right there. I prefer the openness of speakers. Placement is very important. You'll get a lot of advice from the forum on that. My speakers work well away from walls. People not into all the nonsense we get up to on here, tend to sit them against a wall or in a corner but it depends on the speaker. Last edited: Jun 17, Pushpaw and Dennis like this.

I am solidly in the speaker camp but I think when first starting out you can get further faster cheaper in sound quality with headphones. I have not found the headphone setup that I enjoy with records. I find that surface noise stands out too much with headphones. For me, I feel listening to music through a headphone is like looking at a painting through a microscope. It is a useful tool for doing work but not great for taking it all in.

DaverJ , Pushpaw and Jasonb like this. I know what you mean about surface noise with headphones but I usually only listen to really good quality vinyl with them - mofi and analogue productions releases, for example. These don't usually have any surface noise, except maybe some groove whooshing between tracks, but I love that sound. Reminds me my audio is analog--produced by a physical, mechanical process.

Whether or not I'm a headphone or speaker guy - well, I'm not sure. I don't really like listening on headphones in general for example, I hate ear buds , except my grados are very comfortable and they don't give me that claustrophobic feeling of some other headphones, so I can wear them for a long time. I prefer the freedom of listening on speakers, and if I get speakers that impress me as much as my grados, I will likely prefer them to the headphones.

I use the headphones in part because I have to - the wife goes to bed and I can't exactly blast my music. Also, I like to listen to music far more often than her. BayouTiger likes this. I enjoy the mofi myself but easing up on those and buying g from the used rack will get you to new gear much faster. A clean original pressing of those mofi titles work pretty good. Again, spin clean is a critical tool. Using it on new records is also benificial. It's surprising how must vinyl dust you will find at the bottom of the solution tank after cleaning new records.

It also takes off some chemicals that are spayed on to prevent mold. Dennis likes this. Location: Greenville, NC. Tyler Eaves , Jun 17, Now I'm confused - the back of my speakers actually doesn't say mkII, it just says "model 70" and they're 75 watts each, not 40 like the guy who sold them to me said.

Sansui has always been a company dedicated to researching new approaches to audio product design and construction. In their AU-D1 1 integrated amplifier they have incorporated a practical embodiment of an idea that has actually been around longer than the concept of negative feedback. Figure 1 is a simplified block diagram of the SuperFeedforward idea. Distortion, generated in A2, is fed back to the input, reversed in phase, where it is added to A1. This reverse-phased signal is then amplified by A1 and sent on to A2. In this way, distortion is reduced at the output of A2.
