It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there. This is just delete by another name. Loss of drama after speaker change. I recently changed my amp and speakers from rotel and mission to a monitor audio a and tannoy Mercury v1 speakers. My music has lost all the drama and excitement.
Vocals sound great and there is very defined bass but the music guitar, piano etc have been smoothed out. It's like someone has adjusted the levels and made those parts quieter. I swapped back to the missions and they corrected back to what I was use to.
It might be that it's just what I m use to but they are very old speakers and I thought I would upgrade them. Why would the tannoys do this? Are they just not a good match to the amp?
If so what would be? I ve got the option to return the tannoys but don't know what else to look at. Needs to be a small stand mount that will go close to a wall. Kung fu dog , Oct 10, If you want drama then a pair of old Linn Kans with suitable amp. Gaius , Oct 10, MikeMA , Oct 10, What Mission's? Some are pretty good. Dowser , Oct 10, Octavian , Oct 10, You say you've still got the Missions, have you also still got the Rotel amp?
If so, have you tried that driving the Tannoys? I ask for a couple of reasons: 1. You've made 2 changes at the same time, so it is not so easy to identify the likely culprit.
The temptation is to blame the speakers, but you may be shooting the messenger. My experience is that Tannoys are rarely, if ever, lacking in drama and impact. But they do require a quality feed and while I don't know the on-paper specs of either amp, it may be that the MA amp is not up to the job. Sue Pertwee-Tyr , Oct 10, The missions in question are which i m lead to believe are mid 80 s model. Sadly the amp is the part that had to go. It developed a nasty crackle and occasional cut out.
The new amp with the old missions is good but with the tannoys it's a bit bland. Stupidly I did audition the tannoys but not with the MA amp. They sounded good with the arcam equipment in the shop but I guess the don't pair well with the MA.
That would be my suspicion. I'd expect the Tannoys to be rather better in that particular respect as well as others than the Missions. Can you borrow a gutsier amp, or another Rotel, perhaps, just to explore the possibility? TheDecameron , Oct 10, When i auditioned the A there were some remarkable differences between the speakers and my clear preference for the Dali Zensor 1 and 3 emerged.
I ended up with a pair of 3s. What was particularly interesting to me is that MA's own speakers were not nearly as enjoyable to listen to. It was also interesting that the dealer preferred some Kefs for the same money as the Dalis that sounded to me just as you describe the Tannoys, plenty of detail but no fun at all. On reflection i suspect it is an age thing as much as anything else.
At this point in my life and the deterioration of my hearing, i'm 53, the Dalis hit a sweet spot. Ragaman , Oct 10, I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. I changed the amp and speakers at the same time and although initially things sounded decent after a while I started wondering whether I'd done the right thing. Only after a recap by a fellow PFM'er did the speakers fully live up to the billing.
Ragaman is right - the Tannoys are pretty basic speakers. The Missions are very probably better. As far as the amp goes I've heard one and it lacked a bit of flair to me - a used Rotel, Rega or Exposure would provide this. Taff63 , Oct 11, Sounds to me as though the speakers have a different tonal balance, with the Missions likely to have some mid-band prominence that would add to the drama and definition of instruments you now miss with the Tannoy's.
I don't know about your speakers, but mine took a while for the woofers to sound their best. If they are new they might need to loosen up and get used to the environment. Sibbers , Oct 11, All the posts have a common theme System synergy matters And one size does not fit all. It appears that the changes you made are a step in the wrong direction AKG , Oct 13, Audio Images , Oct 14, Well the tannoys have gone back and some Dali zensor 1 have turned up and I love them.
Such a marked improvement over both the tannoys and the old missions. Surprising amount of bass for such a small box but nicely balanced over bass , mid and treble. Nothing jumps out at you as trying to steal the show.
Bigger sweet spot than my other speakers as well. All in all I m well chuffed. Kung fu dog , Oct 14, I have experienced a loss of drama since my divorce.

I am having trouble figuring out what I do not know about Roon… I wish to try Roon because it sounds great and I am tremendously disappointed with the alternatives I have tried for browsing and selecting music. The files are on a desktop computer in my home office plugged directly into the router. The sound system is in the living room. But the iPhone is just really convenient. Roon would also play the files on the desktop.
