Bellari VP130 MK2 Tube Phono Preamp/Headphone Amplifier
Q: I need a phono preamp for a Denon high-output moving-coil cartridge. A: A high-output moving-coil cartridge will work with any phono preamp with a moving magnet MM input. A moving coil MC input is needed only with a moving-coil cartridge that is low-output.
A good phono preamp can make a major difference in sound quality. This often-overlooked component has a critical job. First, it takes the tiny electrical signal from the cartridge and increases it many times, so it can be used with a line level input on a receiver or amplifier. Then it must adjust the signal from the cartridge so it does not sound distorted. It is optimized for moving-magnet and high-output moving-coil cartridges.
It doesn't even have a setting for low-output moving-coil cartridges. Designed and hand-assembled in England by designer Graham Slee, it has won many awards for its fine sound.

Comes with a power supply that is not really suitable for the power needs of the unit you have to Chase hum gremlins. I used an older power supply from a ham radio that was suitable and you have to watch your cell phone when you're near it. Once you get some of these things worked out it works great. This sounds beautiful. I replaced the Ruby tube with a new production Mullard 12ax7 and the highs really opened up. So it seems it is tube dependent and that could be some fun. Super cool look -- my wife even likes it. Valves are inefficient.

Vinyl playback is a pretty big thing for hi-fi buyers across all price ranges, and many lower-priced integrated amps answer that demand, so I intended to criticize this omission in the review. The VP has, to my eyes, wonderful styling—in fact, so wonderful that when I was browsing on Amazon, its appearance helped sway me to buy it over the plethora of inexpensive phono stages you can find there, which, in comparison, looked rather blah.
