Fender Blues Juniors are an extremely popular, relatively inexpensive tube amps that are usable for gigging and recording, but only if you know how to use them — sometimes this involves dialing the EQ in unorthodox ways. Some people like to turn the master all the way up, essentially taking it out of the equation, and using the volume as what its name suggests. I find I get the best results with a Blues Jr if I have the Master somewhere around or a bit above 5 or 6, and then adjust the Volume Gain to taste. I will turn the Master up higher, however, if I want more clean headroom. If you want to run the Blues Jr clean at gigging volume, push that Master as high as you can. Bass: This knob basically controls how big or small you want the Blues Junior to sound. Conversely, if you dial the bass very low, even all the way off, you can make the BJr sound more like it looks — a small, vintage inspired recording amp.
