However, current two channel integrated amps from Yamaha are a step above the average AVR. Perhaps it should be compared with something that's actually comparable.

They are decidedly not junk. I have no particular axe to grind concerning vintage over new. My system is composed of gear that ranges in age from the late 's to within the last year. Yes, some of it is from China. Bear in mind that I generally don't buy bottom of the barrel items. Please don't misunderstand me. I was there when all the now highly coveted Japanese receivers were new. I passed them up for separates. Even in I was planning for the future. I'm glad I did. Other gear has been replaced as time has passed.

However, not using a receiver has made it a lot easier to upgrade my system by replacing only a specific part. Yes, it costs more. However, for me the flexibility is worth the increased cost. I'm not associated, just pleased with this purchase. A very well built, 2 channel integrated amp with 6 inputs, no phono, no dac. But there is a pre out which I use for a subwoofer , and a simple remote. Rated at 76wpc, but feels like it could be more. I can run mine pretty hard Elac Debut 2 6. I do use a Pangea AC9 cable with it, which is probably not needed, but I did it anyway.

It is manufactured in China. That may bother some, it may not others. For now I have no complaints. Similar features to the Musical Fidelity, different amp design though, about twice the price. Re: Integrated Amp Selection Post by Shadowman82 » 18 Dec Old vintage gear is all well and good if you just need the analog connections but what if you wanted optical or coaxial as well to let's say hook up the audio out of a TV or hook up a CD player digitally?

Then vintage gear is a no no. Plus I do not think you need to spend thousands on new gear to get something that lasts. My what would some consider to be crappy Marantz AVR is over 10 years old now , for now it still runs.

And didn't the OP mention something about an Audio Technica turntable? You don't need anything that costs thousands for that kind of a set up. Re: Integrated Amp Selection Post by Sunwire » 19 Dec The best values for long term audio satisfaction are amps from the "golden age" of transistor electronic devices from roughly Look at this site for some ideas.

Many high quality items from this era are still available at reasonable prices. After a couple of hundred dollars spent to have a qualified technician refurbish it, you'll have spent about the same as you would have for a new Chinese item. But the old amp will last much longer, hold it's value, and look much better.

I'm looking for one last shot at opinions. The Denon is the one I haven't heard much about one way or the other. Accessories4Less has the Yamaha on sale refurb, but I've had good luck with them in the past, been around a long time. It's the only one of the three with a detachable power cord if that matters to you. Not on your list but the Marantz PM seems like a worthy contender. The priciest of the three, but not by much.

I think I'm going to give Crutchfield a call and see what they'd have to say as well. Plus, it's 60 day money back, so if I am not satisfied, I can always pick out something new. Thank you everyone for all the help though, I really do appreciate it! It's nice to see something new in the affordable integrated amp realm.

NAD use to have this market and maybe Yamaha too , and they are still strong, but seem to moving in the class D and the digital realm, nothing wrong with that, but I kinda like the traditional amps for just analog uses. Crutchfield seems like a good company, great customer service from what I hear. Marantz PM has a sound on the warmer side, Denon being more neutral but still smooth.

They are actually cousins. Those specifications are all based on static measurements, but music is dynamic and there are many other parameters that influence performance. Board index.

If you can stretch the budget a little then the Yamaha AS is worth an manufacturer refurbished A within budget just at a squeeze.
