Thank you for supporting local journalism. The restrooms became the only open indoor facilities. Skiers and snowboarders could still order up wings or pad thai, but they had to eat it in their cars or at an outdoor table. And masks?

When the day is through, all bets are off! There are two parts: Beers and Bars. For Beers, keep reading. To skip straight to Bars, click here. Local Brewers: Look for these local brews at Utah ski resorts, grocery stores, and brewery locations.

Also a good choice from Uinta is the organic Baba Black Lager. You can buy bottles in their General Store, but much of their beer is also available in local convenience stores. First One Down by Wasatch is one of my favorite winter warmer ales! Like Uinta, both Squatters and Wasatch make local resort brand beer.

A Dunkelweizen beer made by Squatters for Snowbird is on theme with Oktoberfest held each year at that resort. This brewery focuses on lagers made in the old tradition.

I often see Cherny Bock, a dark lager my personal favorite , and their Czech style Pilsner on tap or in cans at many of the resorts. Bohemian beer comes in cans, which makes them a convenient buy for coolers. Find them cold and fresh at their brewery in Midvale, in grocery stores, and full-strength options at the State Liquor Store. Visit the brewery for amazing old world style food; think Pierogies and Brats, Potato Pancakes, and Goulash. The location is convenient to both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons and those staying toward the south end of the valley.

Keep your eyes open for Dead Horse Amber available in cans and on draft, as well as handles of Porcupine Pilsner. Epic is known for its full-strength beer in 22 oz. If you happen to be skiing Snowbasin or Powder Mountain, you may want to stop for dinner in Ogden at Roosters.

They make a nice selection of local brews including their 20 th anniversary Chanticleer Belgian style rye ale and a very nice Honey Wheat. The food is good too! Every resort has a bar or two. Utah's Solitude Mountain Resort Extending Ski Season With Bonus Days

The Mormon pioneers first arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in the summer of When they first ventured into beautiful Big Cottonwood Canyon, it appeared they were the first to do so in earnest—there was no evidence of Native American settlements in the canyon outside of the occasional hunting foray. It appears that the closest Native American settlement was on the shores of Utah Lake, some 30 miles to the south. The first activity in Big Cottonwood Canyon was timber harvesting for the construction of homes; mining came soon thereafter. However, the biggest impact on the canyon was not from logging or mining, but rather from the loss of the beaver population.

Solitude Mountain Resort is adding four extra days of skiing and Argenta Pub: Open Saturday and Sunday; Ski & Ride School: Private.

Discounted passes are available through the "Visit Salt Lake" consortium website:. Solitude Mountain Resort also has a significant allocation of land dedicated to cross country skiing at its' Solitude Nordic Center. These wooded trails start and end at the base village or at the parking lot down the road. On the main alpine downhill ski runs, there is certainly a level of solitude which is appreciated by powder skiers as the powder remains fresh and can last a day or two before being tracked out.
