The ultra low profile design combines the three front Left, Centre and Right channels for extreme compactness and can sit flush under the latest flat screens. Aesthetically pleasing from any view, the Alumni 8 tower uses and combining the healthy bass extension of a standard box speaker with the elegance of a slim podium.
Combining the left, centre and right LCR channels, this ultra low-profile design sits tightly against walls underneath the latest flat screen. The LCR can be used in standard 5. Tiny speaker s big sounds got two now so very good in my conservatory and look good to. These Alumni 2 rear speakers will look good in any room with their highly polished black finish and general high standard of construction. The speaker terminals are slightly unusual in that the bare wires are kept in place by a spring-loaded terminal that looks like a cross between traditional binding posts and cheaper spring clips. Works well though and can take a decent thickness of cable. Sound-wise it's always hard to judge critically when you're only listening to effects, so I hooked this up to the front main terminals on my arcam amp to play some music through them. The sound was surprisingly clear and powerful for such small units, however after a while a very noticeable 'boxy' sound becomes apparent. However if you were pushed for space they are good enough for main stereo if no t critical listening. Unfortunately at the time of writing this I cannot for various reasons play full 5. Positioning is critical though otherwise the sound does source quite obviously from the speakers - I found that pointing them slightly towards the rear wall creates a more diffuse and believable surround effect.
