What Is the Difference Between a Keyboard Amplifier and a Guitar Amplifier?

Good idea? I play in a three-piece acoustic group. I play splits and provide both keyboard and bass lines. So, I need low-end frequency response to reflect the bass parts. Using my exisiting monitor gear; my thought is to replace the driver in a Yorkville 50KW keyboard wedge monitor with a full-range bass driver. Right now, I just dial down the "Low EQ" knob on the amp to keep it from over-extending the current driver.
Specifically, looking at putting in an Eminence Legend B full-range bass speaker into the Yorkville 50kw. Don't laugh at the 10 inch size; lots of bass amps these days have 10 inch drivers. This particular driver appears to be offered as a pro-audio midrange driver as well. Yeah, I could buy a new amp or go powered speaker. Also, how sweet would it be to be able to carry around such a light monitor and get something close to decent sound!
Or, I could spend mega-bucks and hurt my back hauling around a Traynor K4 or a stereo pair of powered speakers. Anybody tried updating the driver in a keyboard amp? Eminence's best all purpose, broad bandwidth, bass guitar speaker. This cast frame speaker is the ideal replacement or upgrade for many bass players.

My home stereo system uses two eight inch woofers and I worked with a bass player who would use two Bose 's a total of 16 four and a half inch speakers for his rehearsal set up as well as stage monitors for himself and a big band.

The speaker you have chosen is designed to be used in configurations of twos or fours like the cab pictured above.
A 10" MI speaker with only a 2" voice coil and 45 oz magnet is probably no better than what you already have. Pull out your speaker and measure it. With only 50 watts of power the distortion you're hearing is probably a combination of amp breakup and speaker overextension, but if you wanted to upgrade your speaker with an Eminence, go with the Delta or Kappa series, which are designed to be used singly and are more sensitive louder I've custom built all my own stage and PA cabs and have used them for years, and they're great.
Their prices are below MAP, so you will have to call or email them. I also play keyboard bass on some jobs. I don't know what kind of bass sounds you like, but unless you are playing strict bass guitar samples you need more of a system to sound good than a bass player.
Synth bass and organ-like bass sounds require more watts and speaker size. Last edited by Bill H. Joined: Sep Dave Bryce. Originally Posted By: f8andbthere. Yeah, the 93 db sensitivity on the Eminence B had me a little worried about power loss. Bill H; are the deltas and kappas listed as "full-range" like this particular driver?
That's what grabbed me, it might offer good full-range sound, not just the bass frequencies. The manual even says you don't need a tweeter. Also, what happens if I just use one instead of a pair?
Thanks very much! Delta Hz The Kappa would be overkill, so forget that one. Don't worry about the 63 Hz number. For monitoring with only a 50 watt amp, that's low enough. I've never used a Delta 10, but have used their 12s and 15s and found them to be a great value. Very bright, punchy, and efficient. They do break up if you pour power to them, like over watts or so, so in those situations in an Eminence speaker I've gone with the Kappa series.
Even at low volume levels, you are asking an awful lot out of that Yorkville. I don't know if you'll be satisfied with any replacement speaker, but if it were me I'd try a Delta if I were to do it.

He's a purist and calls partsexpress partsregret and only will work on technology that is at least 30 years old. OK, I'll move away from the legend; but which Delta or perhaps the Beta? Works well in sealed or vented enclosures.
Also suitable for bass guitar, keyboards, club music systems and stage monitors. Also suitable for bass guitar, vocal PA, keyboards, club music systems and stage monitors.
Also works well in a vented enclosure as a satellite or monitor. Coaxial design for extended HF. HF device sold separately. Actually my vote would be to get a bigger amp, but if I were to do it I'd put a regular Delta 10 in there. Just because I've had good experience with Delta 12s and 15s when used within their operating limits. It's specs show it to be a good tight speaker low Vas, high Fs and SPL which although will not give you a lot of bass at low levels will hold together better at high levels.

It's a bummer, but here's what to do if you happen to blow a speaker in your amplifier. An unfortunate inconvenience, mostly. For musicians, though—especially working musicians—blown speakers in a guitar amp or bass amp or PA system are far more than an inconvenience. They can be a major problem that threatens a gig or a session. What blows a speaker?

About this item
Something lacking from your tone? Surprisingly few guitarists look to speakers for the answer. The results can be even more dramatic than a pickup swap, while the work itself is easier to perform at home. For many guitarists, the thought of working on their own guitar or guitar amplifier may seem completely alien, maybe even totally out of the question.

How to replace guitar amp speakers
Page Contents. The main difference between a keyboard amplifier and a guitar amplifier is the number of effects and inputs. Keyboard amps are also generally at a lower distortion, which helps to zone in on each note and project the keys correctly. If given the choice, it can be quite difficult to decide which one to buy. Although keyboard amps can be used with a wide variety of instruments, they still fall short in some cases. On the other hand, if you use a guitar amp for a keyboard, you run the risk of distorting the sound.

Replacing Peavey keyboard amp speakers. Hi, I have a Peavey KB 5 keyboard amplifier that i think needs new woofers. The amp was given to me by a friend who didn't want it anymore. I'm not sure what's wrong with the speakers. But i think i may have to replace them, but what should i get. It's a really nice amp, just sounds bad currently and would be cheaper to replace the speakers than buy a new amp. Has been driving me crazy, so any help at all is appreciated.
