Joined: Feb Was wondering if it is worthwhile buying a cable which has 2 mono jack ends to stereo jack? The two mono ends would be plugged into the left mono and right jack outputs on my keyboard roland juno G respectively. The stereo end would plug into a PA system. Would this deliver a stereo sound?
Do you guys use this method or simply use to jack leads? Would i be able to use a pan pot on my keyboard to switch between left and right channels on the PA for effects in synth solos? Is it necessary? Keyboard Corner Island. Re: 2 mono jacks to stereo jack. Joined: Jan If you want to run stereo from your keyboard into a stereo PA, I would recommend running left out into one channel and right out into another channel.
Usually stereo is separated in this fashion. You may want to ask your soundman if his PA is true stereo - most often they are not and thus sending a mono signal is sufficient. I usually monitor my boards in stereo with 2 separate amps, but the signal that I send to FOH is mono for each keyboard by way of a duplex DI box. Did you ever get your keyboard to play Jump by itself? Joined: Nov Toronto, ON. Sven Golly. Originally Posted By: buttonbashers. I intend to do battle with them and slay them.
Joined: Dec This won't work. One of your keyboard's channel right won't make any sound, because it's output will be shorted to ground. Of course, you can plug stereo jack into it, but the right channel will automatically connect to ground, producing no signal.
So, while you can connect it this way, there is no point of doing this at all. If you want a stereo feed to the PA, connect left to one channel, and right to another, and then pan them hard-left and hard-right.
Some mixers include a stereo input, which looks like two input jacks on the same channel, so you can use this. The cable you're talking about is purposed for entirely different things. It can, among other stuff, be useful if the keyboard has a single stereo jack for output like Yamaha PSR's and alike - no professional equipment ever does. Most of the time I connect keyboards in mono. Exclusions - when stereo is necessary rhodes with panning, or stereo delay used on synth sound, for examples. Running your Juno in stereo can sound better, but it can also sound worse!
I recommend mono for you. What we record in life, echoes in eternity. Joined: Oct Milford, NH. On better mixers, the line inputs are balanced. If you do what you suggest with a balanced input, you won't even get just the left channel - you will get the difference between the left and right channels.
Actually it would not be quite absolutely nothing - but it would be way soft - the better the mixer the softer it would be. Vught, The Netherlands. Dave Horne. I would use two separate mono cables as well but for a different additional reason. If you just have that one '2 mono jacks to stereo jack', and something goes wrong, you could be without 'both' cables.
If you use two separate mono jacks, the chance of both going bad at the same time is slim. Also, if you plan on working jobs, always bring along extra cables I'm still using cables from over 20 years ago and they're still in excellent shape. If a cable is in fact defective, throw it away. I used to work with a guitar player who carried extra bad cables. You can never have too many extra bad cables, I guess. Netherlands ZH. I've used such a cable before, when I just started playing.
I plugged the stereo plug in the keyboard because it only had a headphone output. The 2 mono plugs where going to the PA. Thanks for all the input, most helpful! It sounds that my best bet is either to stick with what i've got or carefully use two mono jack leads into a PA. For the time being i think i'll stay with the mono output.
Hello, I have a similar doubt about 2 mono to stereo I'm thinking about buying a vox tonelab to use as a tube preamp, and use some of the effects and amp simulators it has for some vintage sounds. But it has only one jack input, but two outputs stereo. If I use a cable that has 2 mono jack from the 2 outputs of my keyboard, and ends to stereo jack to the single input of the vox tonelab, and then I use the stereo output of the vox to a stereo system 2 powered speakers , would this configuration keep the stereo signal coming from the keyboard?
The problem is that I want to bypass the vox for the acoustic piano sounds, and run the acoustic pianos in stereo. Thanks, Ferran. Originally Posted By: ferran rc. So is the only possbility to find a stereo preamp, or 2 mono preamps?
Moe "I keep wanting to like it's sound, but every demo seems to demonstrate that it has the earth-shaking punch and peerless sonics of the Roland Gaia. If you lose stereo anywhere in the signal chain, you can't recover it.
So when you have a stereo signal that you want to add mono effects to or effects with stereo output but mono input , the best thing is to run a stereo mixer with the effects in an effects loop. That way, the original stereo signal is preserved, and the mono or stereo output of the effect is mixed in.

Depends entirely on the PA system you're plugging into, but Invariably, an input channel on a PA mixer will be a MONO input; in the scenario you describe above, what would happen is that one side would be completely ignored.
When you connect the top one into a standard mono input, the connection is made to area 1, while area 2 is completely unconnected, so any signal coming over that connection doesn't make it into the PA at all. Quote: 2. Always use separate leads for separate signal paths. Quote: 3. Quote: 4. In fact it will have the absolute opposite effect if you successfully do a direct connect of two discrete signal paths , as you would be introducing phase cancellation into your signal, corrupting the sound in ways you generally do not want.
Hope this helps. Nice sketch man, you do that in Paint? Originally Posted By: buttonbashers Thanks for all the input, most helpful!
The key word is "carefully" just in case your keyboard spontaneously starts playing Jump in the middle of the gig. I've heard Jump sounds awful in mono.
