Long beep, followed by two short beeps
I have a Gigabyte B HD3 motherboard that will produce an audible noise of 5 short beeps upon startup. It will not boot into Windows after the 5 beeps.
The monitor is blank. I noticed that the PC beeps only when I have the video card installed. When I remove the graphics card the PC functions normally and will boot into Windows without further issue.
I have been out of the IT field for several years as I now work on cars. I am really struggling to find the answer. Am I able to use this Asus graphics card on this Gigabyte motherboard? Is the CMOS battery bad?
Is the video card faulty and need returned? But as I said, the beeps only happen when the video card is plugged into the motherboard. This mystery has now been solved. I was looking at the motherboard and figured I would try one last thing. It was a quick and easy fix but it is something that I also did not think of and as a result, over looked.
The BIOS jumper. I removed it, and allowed the BIOS to reset. Plugged the graphics card in, turned the computer on and presto. No more 5 short beeps. I want to thank you guys for your time and for your help. I do very much appreciate your support! I hope you have a safe and happy holiday! KeithMoon is an IT service provider. How many watts powersupply? Over watts? If so, next thing is try is another video card, or that card in another machine.
If not - CPU is dead or problem with motherboard it self. So what PSU have you got? What Keith and Peterw said makes a lot of sense. If it works without the video card, it seems very, very unlikely that there is something wrong with the CPU, despite 5 beeps meaning a CPU problem. But, if the video card draws a lot of current and the power supply is inadequate, perhaps it could mimic a CPU failure. If you can find or borrow a good power supply W or more?
This should only take a few minutes. I would review their beep codes to make sure. Maybe there is an issue with the thermal paste? I am going to go with this one I was getting an odd error on a computer last year when I forgot to plug in the additional power cable to the video card. The motherboard saw the video card but it still returned some processing error in the bios Try another video card, some older cards used different voltage as-well, any brand should work on your motherboard, does not need to match brand, only match for correct type of card.
I think the Asus card is good? I went into BIOS on the Gigabyte and disabled the internal graphics but continues to beep 5 times no matter which of the two slots I plug the card into. In addition, the Asus Ti does not have a power connector. I usually would plug a power cord into a video card but in this case, I cannot as the card simply does not have that feature?
It is difficult when all the components appear to work on their own but do not when assembled together. I would be looking at which parts have warranty and could be swapped; but before that I would want to know that my assembly of the parts had not gone wrong in some way.
Maybe I have overtightened the screws to the motherboard or some of the connectors might be dirty and high resistance. What I would do is:. Reassemble motherboard to case very carefully, not overtightening screws, minimum of thermal paste, etc.
Note the Video Card and the Hard Drive are not connected. Power it up to the BIOS. If that is OK, plug in Video Card but leave display connected to motherboard and try again. I decided not to plug everything yet in case it doesn't. I turned it on and got nothing on the screen. It was blank. I hit the reset button and only then did I hear the error beeps. One long and two short at first and after that, repeating short beeps.
How to interpret the Asus motherboard LED and beep patterns
My manual and miscellaneous web searches have turned up nothing but vague notions in forums. My specific issue is that after changing the PSU the old one didn't die, but had a power button issue to a Corsair AX and connecting only the CPU and 24 pin motherboard cables:. I've tried pressing the MemOK! Having a reference for all of these would be extremely useful. It should not be a power problem, since the new PSU has more wattage than the old one, and it's running the same hardware. Who knows why?

Hey guys, I posted about a week ago about my computer which was frequently crashing and giving one long and three short beeps as a beep code when I tried booting it. I managed to fix this by just reseating all of the ram and the gpu. This morning it crashed again however the beep code now is one long and four short. I've reseated everything like I did last time however it's still not working.
And why is this the only way? I think why not clarify this review.
