Tube or solid state amp for Jazz?
You may think the title to this post misleading. There are no lightweight, solid state amplifier heads made specifically for jazz guitar. But there are an increasing number of high-powered light heads that could be used for jazz and more. This is an acoustic amp head designed for violin, bass and other acoustic instruments including archtop and other acoustic guitars. There is an effects loop but no onboard effects or reverb. The DV Mark head is fairly new. The amp has reverb and can be overdriven.
All major guitar amplifier manufacturers build their amps from solid-state technology, vacuum tube technology, or a combination of both vacuum tube and solid-state technology. Some amplifiers incorporate digital technology in order to copy the sound of other amplification systems, which is either a solid-state amp or a tube amp.
