Watt meter for amplifier song
I'm playing folk music in a coffee shop. How much amplifier power do I need? Our rock group will be playing in a seat concert hall. How many watts will we need? I just bought some PA speakers.

Are Mc Meters Accurate as Claimed?
Your local drive-in DJ, the next-door neighbour or even your best friend bragging about their new sound system might sound familiar to you. Sure, a 1, Watt speaker is louder than a Watt model but definitely not times as loud. As a matter of fact, sometimes a 1, Watt speaker can produce more volume than a 1, Watt one.
This blog is written to separate the facts from fiction and show you how it really works when it comes to the power capacity of speakers and amplifiers. An amplifier outputs power and passes it on to a speaker. In turn, the speaker takes the power and processes it.
Even though there are two different types of speakers — active ones with built-in amplifiers and passive speakers — the principle is the same: sound gets amplified. Basically, this means that it can handle, or rather, process Watts of power. More specifically, the number of Watts indicate how much power a speaker can be burdened with under certain circumstances before it breaks.
In practice, this means that a W speaker is often actually able to handle more than Watts. This last bit is exactly where things can bottleneck. Even when boasting the same power capacity, different speakers can come with different results when tested under the same conditions.
That means that in real life, the specified number of Watts can sometimes cause more harm than good. True, but people often make a mistake when they compare speakers to lamps and say that a W bulb burns brighter than a 10W bulb. First, the sensitivity.
The sensitivity of a speaker is expressed in dBs, or decibels. Usually, manufacturers specify the amount of dBs that a speaker can produce with a single Watt of power at a 1-metre distance. In most cases, the number will lie somewhere between 84 and 92 dB with the rule of thumb being: the more sensitive a speaker is, the less power it needs to put out louder volume. Does that mean that smaller speakers are easier to power? No, because these are often less sensitive than larger units because they are forced to sacrifice a large portion of the sensitivity to reproduce a decent amount of low-end.
Different word, same principle. The maximum sound pressure level also plays an important role in determining how loud a speaker can go.
Unfortunately, however, not every manufacturer includes the maximum dB SPL in the specifications of their gear. This indicates the amount of power a speaker is able to handle for a few milliseconds before it breaks beyond repair. How so, you ask? This would mean that the amplifier is only able to offer 50W before the sounds start to distort.
When this line is crossed, clipping occurs. But, if you try really hard, you can probably give the other components inside the speaker a one-way ticket to the scrapyard as well.
More information about matching speakers and amplifiers can be found in our blog on the difference between passive and active speakers. Hopefully, you now feel confident and informed enough to make a choice based on the facts instead of the fiction.
Still not entirely sure if that new amp or speaker will work well for you? Simply put your question in a comment below! I have 90s watt Technics amp, On the back of the 4 calble says watts and then on each outlet for speaker devided by 2 sections with ohm says 8ohm per speaker and then 16 ohms par speaker.
The amp has a clipper monitor display and turns red if clipping. It also has a internal safty switch which disables the unit if it clips to high.
I had to unscrew the thing and turn the switch back on. Basicly got a stack of speakers. I was wondering about guitar amps, specifically ones with a tube driven pre amp and a solid state power amp — given that tube watts and solid state watts are very different does the wattage refer to the power amp only or a combination of the 2? The power will always come from the power amp section. I can understand the confusion. In the example, we use a 50 Watt amplifier to power a Watt speaker.
That is what we mean by a low threshold: as soon as you go over the maximum power that an amplifier can give, your speakers will start distorting very quickly. But there is a limit to this.
A speaker usually has a maximum power capacity specified, which is the absolute maximum amount of power a speaker can handle in short bursts. Excellent article. I take it us higher side as that is how the word is generally used. Did you mean for the amp wattage or speaker? I am a beginner and I got more confused.

In this design, photodiode PIN is used to convert light current into voltage values. And the employment of the logarithmic amplifier AD can avert the sophisticated logarithm operation and the error by using the linear amplifier.

What is going on,My volt meter jumps to the beat of the music and amps are getting ho. Hi, I wired my stereo so it has a separate distribution block for the negative wires, and one for the power wires. I have three oldschool amplifiers ,I have 2 alpine amplifiers rms watts each, one for each of my component sets ,and one hifonics zeus VIII amp, rated at rms watts. The hifonics zeus amp stays fairly cool, and is only running two 10 inch subwoofers that are only rms watts each.

I have a few music tracks that are my go-to tunes when evaluating stereo systems. I know them intimately and can spot playback distinctions like an owl catching a flicker of movement from a mouse buried under 10 inches of snow. Plus, I never tire of them, and when I listen I focus on the delivery, not my fickle reactions to the music itself. Auditioning the Monoprice Stereo Hybrid Tube Amp via such perennial favorites presented a special challenge. The shelf system is a watt tube amp system that also has Bluetooth, so you can feed it from your smartphone or tablet. That makes it a hybrid system, using a solid-state power amplifier but a tube pre-amp. The only option in critical thought is to go with your gut, and the only way to find out is to fire up those tubes.

The reason for using a sound level meter is because once you have your system complete, it may take a big increase in amplifier power to see a slight 1 to 3 dB increase in sound pressure levels, just think of how much money it would take to double the number of amplifiers you have! It would be much cheaper to buy sound level meter, re-tune and design your system better. Noticing what changes in design makes your dB level go higher with a use of a sound level meter. Unless you have had a lot of experience you may not perceive this correctly. Furthermore, system changes can cause resonant frequency changes.
The TE Systems G 6 meter amplifier, with roughly watts out for 20 watts in, arrived today. Last week the Diamond GZV 60 amp power supply arrived. So today, I got everything setup and gave it a try. It has worked well in the rover and in the home ham shack. I have sent it back for a couple of repairs. The repairs were quick and done under warranty. It takes a pretty hefty power supply to run this amplifier.
