The solution uses electric band switching, such that both 6m and 4m operation can be maintained. This modification is not straight-forward and requires a fair amount of skill and proper tools. You can also perform a simple modification without the band swithcing. This will not allow you to use the amplifier on 6m. The modified amplifier will deliver in excess of W on 4m with an input of 30 W.

When I got and connected the amplifier I am pleasantly surprised. A large nice display is also easy to use. Fans work quietly, on-and-off as needed. One thing I noticed is that it trips if PA current gets close to amps… which only happens on one band, where the antenna may not be perfect. Definitely improved with the new MKRF transistor, which is working at lower voltage reliably. I bought this amp, despite some negative reviews, because of my satisfaction with my Acom A. I'm quite happy that i went with my gut instincts. I have had no problems or issues with the Acom S.
It easily puts out rated power on all bands and is a pure joy to operate. I have several tube and solid state amps in the shack. Most of my amps are capable of legal limit and are solid performers. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I had a problem with the amp after 10 months, it was returned to Acom for warranty repair. PA Upgraded and repaired to the latest spec. Seems to be fine and improved, maybe, you can hope!! Only used into resonant antennas. I work, so used sparsely. Looked after like a baby. It's now been sold, just don't trust it, never had a problem with my PW-1 in 10 years or Tokyo Hy Power. It's a ball ache to send back for repair. Now have the SPE Expert 1. NJ0F Rating: Awesome amp! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I own two S amps and I never had a single issue with either. Having said this, any solid state amp likes resonant antennas.
These are no exception. Great amp. Just like any other Acom. Despite some of the rather dubious reviews on this website, I decided to replace my Acom with the S.
From its release three years ago, Acom admitted it had some "growing pains". But I was reassured by the U. I've only had it for one month, so time will tell of its reliability. In the RTTY contest, I ran it at about W, and the temperature never got real close to the protection threshold.
I ran it close to 1KW in the CW test, and the fan never got past the second of its four speeds. In an antenna restricted community, I run the amp with an Icom IC into a high power capable ground-mounted Tarheel screwdriver, far away from the house.

But I wouldn't let the previous poor reviews deter you from this amp. So far, I'm very pleased with its operation, and it has a two-year warranty. I received my S back from DX Engineering on that date. It has been working well for the last week.
However, any more than 5 Watts input causes the S to a soft fault. That 5 watts input can get me between and watts. I, and the PRO. I called up and ordered with someone over the phone to make sure the order was correct.
It showed up in a timely fashion however the Acom S V amplifier had a European power cord. So I waited another six days while they sent me a power cord for the US. It worked fantastically for the first 14 or 15 days. Then, I was tuning around the dial when I had a power outage. It was just an On and off. Everything at the station powered down. Everything powered on properly again except for the Acom S.
When turning on the Amp it went to the first screen and displayed an error message. Something about a PA under Volt condition. Pressing any key powered the amp off again. I tried this three or four times and the fourth time the magic smoke started coming out of the amplifier and it smelled like burnt plastic.
This is very disappointing! In a nutshell here are my pros. It is very quiet compared to my old TL and has a great automatic protection system. The amp requires little drive power 10W in … W out … on 17 Meters.
The manual is well written and easy to understand. Cons: Long lead time. Had to wait over 4 weeks for delivery from the Canadian Dealer due to Covid 19 situation. Should improve in the future. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Acom S and have no problems recommending it. Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. I am excited about the remote control of the antenna tuner and working with the PA.

Any way to lazily ohm out the wires to determine which is what input line? The others I don't suppose matter, either should be V each. I don't think there is a phase issue??

This means that for full computer control and remote power on operation to be possible, a custom cable must be used. This modification enables the use of a completely standard straight through RS cable for both computer control and remote power on. If you never use the remote power on capabilities of the ACOM S then this modifiation is not required and should not be attempted. Once this modification is complete a standard straight through RS cable can be used however the ACOM S will still support a custom wired cable if one does get connected in the future, allowing for the wiring noted in the manual to be utilised should someone who is not aware the modification has been made uses the amp in the future. The rear module is held in place by 3 screws on the bottom of the case, these should now be removed. It should now be possible to lift the module out of the amp and set it to the side, it will still be connected and can be a little tricky to maneuver past the wiring, take your time.
