The four Softube-developed Marshall amp plug-ins available exclusively for UAD hardware and UA interfaces form much of the basis for the Marshall legacy. But the Bluesbreaker is a different beast than more modern Marshall designs. For starters, its open-backed cabinet yields a less directional sound without the low-end knock of iconic 4x12 setups, and the dual KT66 power tubes yield a slightly more bell-like top end, and a clearer, less rabid midrange bark as later ELequipped Marshalls. The low-wattage Celestion alnico speakers also add their own compression and breakup characteristics, especially when the amp is cranked.

This style of Marshall amps were made for the Canadian market still made in the UK of course. You can tell because of the toggle switches, and not the rocker style switches. One of said toggle switches has indeed been replaced. Another aspect of these made for Canada Marshalls is the amps ability to "only" run at 4 or 8 ohms, however most experts would agree running the head at 8 ohms into a 16 ohm cab is totally fine. The Canadian versions also have some additional red printing on the back as well.

The amp has been modded with a separate pre-amp volume gain control for the "Hi Sensitivity" input. So the normal Pre Volume works for both inputs, and the upper added knob only affects the "Hi" input. The amp also has a line out in the back, with a volume control as well. Amp is in good cosmetic condition, some nicks and scuffs. Marshall logo has been replaced with a newer logo, and some of the piping was replace JJ 6CA7 EL34 output tubes and nice old Sylvania preamp tubes.

Vintage 1977 Marshall JMP Model 2203 100W Tube Amp Head

The plexi still had many significant elements that helped form the way the tweed Bassman did business, including the three-knob cathode-follower tone stack, Presence control, long-tailed-pair phase inverter, and a class AB output stage in fixed bias with a negative feedback loop to tighten up the performance. Poke your nose inside the chassis of the two — figuratively, please — and the component layouts are still virtually identical, aside from the mounting positions for the tubes. Despite the higher power, EL34s also compressed and broke up a little more quickly, and some would say more sweetly, than 6L6-types in a similar circuit. That gritty, chewy, slightly crispy sounding EL34 grind is a standard of the heavy rock sound that was clearly established by Marshall, and has been emulated by countless manufacturers ever since. Early plexi-panel amps still wore the JTM prefix, but their rating was bumped up to 50, although for a time they simultaneously carried EL34s and a tube rectifier. Ramping up the DC voltages to the EL34s in a cranked plexi requires yanking a whole lot of current through the rectifier where AC from the power transformer is converted to the DC that lets the tubes do their thing and would result in a lot of sag in a tube rectifier, creating a delayed note response and mushy playing feel at high volumes. This change made the Marshall bolder and punchier, and helped to shape it into a better high-volume amp for rock lead playing.
