Mine is not in quite the condition of yours but still very clean. I did a cap job, replaced a few power resistors, and a couple of k cathode resistors in the pre-amp that had become very noisy.
Some NOS tubes and it has been as reliable and anything and the tone is incredible. I also packed up the original speaker and put a Weber C12Q in it. I spoke to Ted Weber at length on the phone and I'm pretty sure that he made this speaker himself at that time.
And this was before Jenson "asked" that he change his model numbering scheme so as not to be the same as theirs I've compared this speaker in this amp to a real '65 Jenson C12Q and it sounds very close. In any case it works very well in this amp and has held up quite well to some punishment. I've since then purchased some Weber 12F drivers and though they sound good, do not really get the same tone that the older Weber C12Q produces.
Even well broken in the 12F sounds slightly tighter although they do still sound great. I do think that they have changed the recipe somewhere along the line and the newer ones just don't quite matchup to those from years ago. So you might consider the Weber for this amp. I rolled lots and lots of 10s through that one and ultimately settled on the Fenders. Last edited: Aug 8, Bill Harris and jcmgridlock like this.

My uncle a carpenter, made "travel cases" for me when I was still a teen late 60's for all of these and my others I used. Princeton Trio - Last edited: Aug 17, Both have stock Fender Jensen speakers that are age appropriate.
I bought several "extra" Fender Jensen's in the early 60's in 10"and 12" Fender blue label's and all. Being here in Orange County CA, I had a couple former Fender amp div employees thatstarted business that rebuilt speakers cone jobs, etc to factory precision. I even had a dozen Fender Jensen 6" and 10" for early 50's Champs and later 57 on Champs that come into my shop for rebuilds.
My studio amps are near perfect thanks to my uncle's transport case building craftsmanship, and that smoking or booze, coffee any liquid that could be spilled was not allowed in the studio's rooms even in the 60's. I've always kept them in the "boxes".

I don't expect anyone to mod their original 5E3 Deluxe but if you have a Deluxe clone like me then adding some switchable mods can be beneficial. I'm not trying to improve the 5E3 so much as I'm trying to make the amp more versatile. Some of the mods work well together too. When I need more headroom I'll flip the feedback switch on but this pairs well with the Lead Channel and High Gain mods.
Tweed Deluxe Speaker Thoughts….
It has way too much upper midrange and too ice picky treble. Which WGS have a thight bottom, scoop'ed upper mids but with some sparkle on top , open airy but warm? I actually would like the amp to sound like a Blackface Deluxe Reverb!! Do you really think the Blackhawk is the right speaker for my Tweed Deluxe when I want the amp to sound like a Blackface Deluxe Reverb? The Blackhawk is supposed to be a replacement speaker for a Celestion Gold - to me the C G speaker have a lot of that upper mid emphasis and the typical British 'bell chime' which I don't like But maybe the Blackhawk is totally different? I was thinking of an American voiced speaker with a thight bottom, scooped upper mids and some sparkle way up on top - so to speak They are SUCH!! I have both, and have had several of both, and Everything about them is different from a circuit perspective Tweed: Old world P.

It is a truly classic design. The amp yields harmonically complex bell-like clean tones at low volumes and milkshake thick overdrive as you turn it up. This amp is built with the best parts and will blow away reissues. It will stand toe to toe with the original tone-wise yet be more reliable and have less floor noise. Don't confuse these with the kits people have built or even many boutique builds.

I was impressed with the quality of the parts. The woodpile then cut to size with my table saw. For the finger joints I made this jig for my router. Test fit. Snug as a bug. A bit rough but not bad.
