I went looking for speakers that I could keep in the walls and the price was rather higher than the Lifestyle setup.

There's a few pros and con's I see: Custom System Pro: Flush mounted speakers Hidden subwoofer Electronics and cable box all hidden Custom System Con: Cost Bose System Pro: Cheaper than Custom Very nice sound but not as good as custom All in one solution and no trying to figure out if it works together Bose System Con: Speakers are exposed Subwoofer is on the floor and potentially going to be messed with by my kids What do you think guys.

You can save a shit ton of money since the kits these days are actually "really good". So his markups are basically close to what you could get it for in "unit 1". Getting an AVR that cannot multipoint calibrate is a "bad thing" if you are spending any decent amount of money on speakers.

You WILL pay for it, you'll pay less when building your own speakers but it still ain't cheap. Bose won't give you theater like sound. All they offer is a cheap, easy to install sound system.

Your left center and right matter the most, if you go cheap to get cheap surrounds then your sound will be cheap. Don't get speakers that can't be driven by a standard receiver, you'll spend a chunk on external amps for these. A denon x is enough to drive a majority of speakers out there.

Unless you are trying to get fancy you won't need much more than that. Shit for that money you can build 3 's and 2 18" subs with enough money left over for atmos and surround.
