I know there's been a bit of debate on this so I thought some of you would be interested to hear what I find. However my real aim is to improve my source stereo over the My system is BSC , Nov 16, Linger63 , Nov 16, Location: So. ME USA. Bill Mac , Nov 16, Location: Portland, Oregon. I'll be interested, too. It was marvelous. Mike , Nov 17, Location: Rockford, MI. I just got my BDA-3 as well!
I have been loving it. Aside from some minor bugs with software, I have been very happy and am looking forward to your thoughts as well. Linger63 likes this. Location: Atlanta Georgia. OK, please forgive my ignorance here, so educate me. I presently have a Oppo and soon to be getting the when it comes out. I have a 2.
All of this music stored on a portable HD plugged into the I have no plans for buying DSD downloads or going with any other format. So my question is, what would this unit do for me and how do use it?
I am very satisfied with the performance of my systems as it stands now, but always interested in making adjustments. See equipment profile if you would like. David Johnson , Nov 17, BSC , Nov 17, Ok DAC is in the house.
Upsampling is working ok. Nice slim unit, easy to set up but I had read a fair bit about this in advance. Unfortunately too late to play music as midnight here in the UK but I hope to get my initial impressions posted what is later today now Last edited: Nov 18, Linger63 , Nov 18, BSC , Nov 18, Ok first listening session. I decided on running different inputs into my amp-balanced from the Bryston and RCA from the Oppo-whilst there is a volume difference this allowed me the easiest way to listen without constant powering up and down.
I have been very careful to ensure volume plays no part and I'm confident I've done that because in my experience louder can make you think you are listening to better when comparing equipment.
For me this is the bread and butter of what I want-better stereo. The result is noticeable and obvious the Bryston wins. On OK Computer the detail and resolution was up a few notches and background instruments were more tangible and present in the soundstage The sound was not noticeably different in terms of presentation from the Oppo but a similar version a couple of notches up the ladder.
The Dan disc actually had as well as the detail aspect more presence and I checked the volume differences carefully-nope it was there. Indeed switching back to the Oppo was a bit colourless in relation-a very clear drop off. Jamie XX the most modern recording probably on a quick listen was the less noticeable overall but the definition on separate effects on the Bryston was clear as day.
Similarly on KOB it was all about definition-a lot of the bass notes were much better defined. My system is a pretty musical one-a good balanced one that is both listenable but capable of a big sound or impact and the Bryston so far just takes things up a notch.
Overall if you were to score the Oppo say a 7 on a 10 scale you would need to say the Bryston was a good 8. In terms of listening I did all discs through coax and with the upsampling option OFF-so it was a straight forward DAC comparison and it was as above. Of course I tried the upsampling option too and I felt there was a subtle positive change-I also tried quickly using the HDMI input on redbook but my brain was telling me too much info please stop However on straight ahead redbook a very positive result and one you would expect considering the Bryston is nearly three times the cost of the Oppo More to follow Nice review - I 'get' what you are describing.
Anyway you could flip the connections to see if they play any part in sonic differences? Erik Tracy , Nov 18, Location: PA. If I am understanding correctly are you not using a preamp and going straight to the amps from the Bryston. Is volume through the Oppo or DAC? What volume setting is being used on the passive unit, full? Location: London, UK. Robert C , Nov 18, Location: The Nearest Faraway Place. This is a very exciting post for me. Hearing that you are noticing improvements with the is very encouraging since the has the "audiophile" grade DAC and not the Please keep posting your impressions.
I have forgotten, did you say this is a new DAC or a loaner that has already been burned in? If new it will definitely improve with time. Sounds like you did well with your DAC upgrade. Location: Atlanta. The BDA-2 was pretty good. A friend had one and I liked it. LeeS , Nov 18, Location: Delta, BC, Canada.
If not then a setting of some sort, probably on the Oppo, needs to be changed. Blair G. Show Ignored Content.

Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally. I have started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills. Please help, if you can.
Bryston BDA-3 DAC

It is said that this DAC needs plenty of running in. This may be so, but even so, new from the box, never having been used, the still cold BDA-3 plays already plays very convincingly. It is a solid, sonorous, full-bodied and dynamic sound that engages immediately. I do hear that it does not achieve the level of transparency, resolution, focus, and imaging outside of the speakers that the Aqua does, but the funny thing is that 10 seconds after noticing this, my foot starts tapping and I forget about the technicalities and simply enjoy the music. This is another surprise and a very welcome one at that!
Oppo 105 with Bryston Bda-3 Dac...dem imminent
For the vast majority of modern audiophiles streaming is an integral part of their audio system. Bryston has been making streamers since , and the BDA The BDA And while throwing away bits on a bit DAC can result in audible sonic degradation at lower volume levels, with a bit DAC the bit loss is not substantial enough to cause audible sonic degradation even at modest volume levels. So that was what Bryston opted to use for the BDA

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it. Return to Digital Drive. New Bryston BDA 3. The BDA Bryston uses a re-clocking circuit to reduce jitter to "nearly unmeasurable levels", while its analogue section is beneficially absent of integrated circuits that tend to limit bandwidth and dynamic range.
