Linearizer amplifier schematics

This paper presented an adjustable analog predistortion linearization method for RF power amplifier. The linearization includes an attenuator, a phase shifter and an anti-parallel Schottky diode pair with DC bias, through adjusting these components, we can adjust predistortion characteristic of the linearization to be complementary to distortion characteristic of RF power amplifier. By cascading this linearization with power amplifier, we can improve linearity of amplifier. Firstly, we simulated the proposed predistortion linearization with software ADS, then the linearization was manufactured and tested together with RF power amplifier PTF Experimental results show that we can adjust predistortion characteristic of the linearization to be closely complementary to distrotion characteristic of power amplifier PTF as desired.

Power amplifier linearization using MMICs

Linearization of electronics group led by prof. Timo Rahkonen aims to analyze, understand, and minimize non-linear effects in electronics, and develop faster and more precise ways to analyze their effects. The main contribution of the group has been the development of a generic distortion contribution analysis technique called Volterra on Harmonic Balance VoHB.

It has been implemented to operate on top of normal Harmonic Balance simulation using any device models any any number of components, and the implementation has been done on commercial AWR-Aplac simulator. Further, one can plot how the dominant contributions consist of non-linearities of different order, and results mixing from different harmonic bands.

This aids the designer to minimize total distortion by a proper tuning of 2nd harmonic termination, for example. As another example, the tool has also been used to analyze the effect of the input impedance of the reconstruction filter to the distortion generated in the output of a current-steering RF DA converter.

Methods to characterize and minimize non-linearity errors in AD and DA converters have been developed. As an example, Fig. The trajectory of spurious components depends on the non-linearity of the DAC, and spurious components generated at small signals can be pushed out from signal band simply re-ordering the DAC unit elements so that the DAC INL has minimum 2-cycle periodicity.

One efficient method to improve the power efficiency of RF transmitters is to modulate the power supply in real time. The group has developed a piecewise linear simulation technique, that greatly speeds up the simulation of modulated switch-mode power supplies, and has studied non-linear effects both in supply modulators and in supply-modulated RF amplifiers.

For example, switching class E amplifiers have a strong supply-dependent injection from output to the input of the amplifier. This alters the duty cycle of the input drive and causes negative resistance at the fundamental frequency, both of which need to be compensated by proper design of the input impedance.

The designed damping circuit cured the instability, and input a 2nd harmonic trap prevented duty cycle variotions. Skip to main content. Close search. Electronics and Communications Engineering. The dynamic impedance lines of the nonlinearity generation circuits of the proposed predistorters are analyzed and the equivalent circuits of the nonlinearity generation circuit were obtained from the large signal simulation. The characteristics of the predistorter circuits were analyzed and compared each other.

Year of fee payment : 4. Circuits and methods for achieving high linearity, high efficiency power amplifiers, including digital predistortion DPD and pulse cancellation in switched-state RF power amplifier systems are described. Subject matter disclosed herein relates generally to radio frequency RF systems and, more particularly, to circuits and techniques for multilevel power amplifier systems. As is known in the art, achieving both high efficiency and high linearity in radio frequency RF power amplifier systems is a longstanding challenge. One means of improving efficiency in such systems is an architecture wherein the power amplifier system is switched with discrete transitions among a set of operating states. For example, this includes an RF amplifier system in which the drain bias voltage for the one or more power amplifiers provided as part of the RF power amplifier system is dynamically selected from more than one possible source or level e. A range of power amplifier systems exist in which the drain bias for one or more power amplifiers forming the power amplifier system is provided via dynamic selection from among a plurality of sources. For example, some prior art systems dynamically select drain bias voltages from among a discrete set of input supply voltages and then provide additional regulation to provide a continuously-varying drain voltage e. Alternatively, and in accordance with one aspect of the concepts systems and techniques described herein, it has been recognized that one can provide a power amplifier system that switches among a set of discrete levels for some operating conditions, and switches the drain bias to an input that provides continuous envelope tracking for other conditions.

Linearization of RF Power Amplifiers Using Adaptive Kalman Filtering Algorithm

Introduction to Predistortion Techniques. To meet the stringent requirement for linearity, various linearization techniques are adopted. Among the techniques, the feed-forward method provides extremely linear and broad-band characteristics. However, it is an expensive solution, consisting of auxiliary error amplifiers and complicated control circuits. On the other hand, a feedback technique has decisive disadvantages of instability and bandwidth limitation.

The new solution increases wireless capacity of a 5G base station, supporting more simultaneous users and increasing the speed of data transmissions. The use of GaN on SiC with effective linearization accelerates the rollout of 5G by enabling significant power, thermal, and cost savings through more efficient wireless transmission. The newer 5G spectrum is at a higher carrier frequency and has wider bandwidths, making it more challenging to achieve high power efficiency for radio units. Our wideband, power-efficient linearization solution and our low power MHz transceivers significantly reduce the heat dissipated by massive MIMO arrays, resulting in a substantially slimmer, lower cost radio solution.
