Bryston 3b with f
I'm selling my Bryston 3B-ST. The unit is 7 months old and mint. It is rated at wpc and can be bridged. It is not the end all in solid state -- but close. It would take a fat wallet or tubes to best it.

Page 2 of 3. I'm not sure how much help this is going to be since I've not used Bryston amps, but I am currently using two monoblock Ncore's. The build was very easy and they sound incredible. They can be pushed very hard and still sound relaxed, effortless really. I'm very happy with mine. Also, a note on the noise floor. I have to put my ears right next to the tweeter to hear the amps noise floor, and even then it's very very very quiet. These have an immeasurable noise floor from the listening position.
Really very nice! My Studio. I made the switch from a Bryston 3b to a pair of ucds recently powering a pair of Tyler D1x and I've been really impressed so far. One thing that has surprised me is that I'm getting approx 5db less level from the Hypex amps.
Is this to be expected? They are rated much higher than the Bryston, power-wise. Analogue Mastering. I went from class D sds to Plinius SB Though Class D sounds very transparent, i find the Plinius revealing more detail. Bigger soundstage and less bright highs. Class D imho is very good for the money, but not as engaged as a high end class A amp. It's all a bit more "bland" sounding, not in a transparent way, but more in a bit boring way.
I get more goosebumps with my Plinius. And i'm hearing stuff, i did not hear before. But imho no contender for current line up of high end manufacturers.
I totally get it why class D is being pushed because of all of the above advantages it brings, but in absolute emotive sound quality yeah yeah very subjective I know! About to pull the trig on one. Cubed listeners, come one, come all. What are your thoughts? They have stature in our world but there are so many other options. Again for the sound and also price Or would you go for a cheaper Parasound or something else instead?
If the speakers were very bright I might lean towards Parasound but if they were broadly speaking balanced I would definitely pick up a 4B SST3, it's a fantastic amp and will just go and go. I've had many many hundreds through my hands and have seen almost zero failures.
You may need more power if your room is larger or your speakers are inefficient but for typical mastering use a 4B will be enough. It would depend on the speakers. If the speakers were very bright I might lean towards Parasound. Great feedback, thanks. Assuming you're experienced with ATC passives? I have the SCM 12 Pros, would you consider those bright?
On a side note, just for reference in this thread or maybe another? Yes the A21 is around One of if not the best Class A amps in the under range. Needs a little break in. I own 4 of the big Parasound JC1 amps and used them as my main amps for 5 years. Months where I could work on one for a week and then switch to the other.
The Parasounds are great but there is no huge gulf to the Brystons, they are both excellent. The JC1 is just a little sweeter, and less accurate but in a nice way. I could and did work with either interchangeably on my PMCs. This is aside from my work with PMC where I've set up countless speakers with every combination of amps in every possible type of room. There differences between Parasound and Bryston are not profound. The Hypex modules are also excellent sounding, especially Ncore.
I had a Parasound A21 on hand for months too and it is very similar to the JC1 without the grunt, a very sweet amp. It's All About the Op Amps!!! Bryston vs Hypex. It so happens that I compared those last night. It came with LM op amps installed, and a pair of AD op amps to swap in.
The Hypex easily drove those power-hungry speakers. With the LM op amps I immediately noticed a brighter sound with less mids and less stereo width. The "girth" that I was accustomed to was gone. I swapped in the AD op amps and the girth was back - the sound was hard to distinguish from the Bryston 4B. It's hard to believe those tiny op amps make that much difference. It's not subtle. Now I have a smaller, cheaper and cooler-running alternative with two different sounds to choose from.
I'm still in disbelief that this little Hypex unit can take the place of the hefty 4B, but it does Can you post a link to the amp you bought? Cheers, Ruairi. X-Pand Sound Mastering. It look like a real monster made with all the best things one could wish at every stage of the design I'm amazed it's not double the price PMC super stack user here. I have found that class D amplifiers sound brighter than my Bryston reference. Also less stereo width. There was a suspicion that the Class D amps in use were inferior to later generation Brystons.
Though not perfect I created a setup that removed as many variables as possible and we did some blind tests. The results were totally random, nobody present could pick the different amps which tallied absolutely with my experience in my own mastering room. Hi Ruairi, Now into my third decade of full-time mastering, the more I am convinced that much of what we experience when listening to music happens below the conscious level in the realm of feeling.
We feel before we know. They all but blot out feeling in favor of the conscious effort to detect a difference. How you feel in the moment affects where your instincts lead you when working in an area as subjective as mixing or mastering. Wow, what a leap forward!! Thomas W. I have tried digital amps, tube amps and hybrid amps and I still have not found an amplifier that sounds as good as my Bryston 4BST.

By irb , August 25, in Ebay Links. The title says it is a 3B-ST and has w per channel into 8 ohms. This is incorrect - the 3B-ST is a w per channel amp into 8 ohms ; w per channel is the nominal power output of the 4B-ST, a different amp altogether and physically twice as large. The odd thing is that the rear panel of the amp in the auction says w next to each output. This can therefore only be a rear panel from a 4B, not a 3B. This suggests to me that the amp may have been messed about with. As it states - the w relates to the individual speaker power

LOG IN. Just curious as to what speakers you've got mated with your Bryston gear. I've had 'em for about 3 years now and I'm coming down with a case of upgrade syndrome. Edit Delete. For a full description of my system, click on the system link below. In my case cured the upgrade bug for speakers. Incredible what the amp does with those small speakers they go very deep altough I know logically the range is limited towards the low freq.

Hey everyone, I have a chance to upgrade my two channel by selling my w per ch. Do you think it's a worth while upgrade or would I be better off putting the money elsewhere? Please respond back as soon as possible with your suggestions as this deal will not last for me. How about all you Bryston amp owners? Worth it? Thanks, Matt. I am running my 's with this amp upgrading from the and I could never part with mine now.
