Selected Speeches

Commencement ceremonies occur at the end of the spring and fall terms and degree candidates are invited to participate in the college ceremony in which their degree program falls. Commencement is a traditional university ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of our degree candidates. Academic degrees date from the second half of the 12th century. The present ceremony recognizing scholarly achievement retains all the essential features of its ancient predecessors. The university also awards post-baccalaureate certificates and certificates of advanced study. Degrees are symbolically conferred during Commencement, and candidates completing all degree requirements successfully receive their diplomas four to six weeks after the ceremony.

Celebrating a milestone: UM-Dearborn prepares to recognize 50,000th graduate

Throughout her career in public service, Amy has always embraced the values she learned growing up in Minnesota. She has built a reputation as a commonsense legislator, willing to put partisanship aside to strengthen the economy and support families, workers, and businesses. Since arriving in the Senate, Amy has worked with democrats and republicans on legislation focused on improving the lives of everyday Americans. She was recently appointed Chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee where she brings together senators, businesses, community leaders, policy experts and intergovernmental organizations to help develop policies to strengthen the economy and move the country forward. She authored legislation to help small businesses tap into new markets abroad, passed a significant amendment aimed at boosting funds for STEM education for American students, and led successful national initiatives to boost American tourism. Her safe schools initiative, community prosecution efforts, and criminal justice reforms earned national awards from both the Bush and Clinton Justice Departments. Amy was the valedictorian of her Wayzata High School class. Amy and John have a daughter, Abigail, who is currently in college. Jacob looks back fondly on this fortuitous beginning to a college career brimming with fulfilling experiences and accomplishments.

A seasoned litigator, Matt has advocated on behalf of business owners, in-house legal teams, and individuals in state and federal court. In addition, Matt holds numerous leadership roles with the American Bar Association related to cybersecurity, and is a frequent writer and speaker on the topic. Dedicated to the Greater Baltimore community, Matt has also served for over ten years as a board member of Civic Works and the Clarence H. For almost two decades, businesses and individuals in the region have relied on Matt for representation in a variety of matters at the trial and appeals court levels.
