Troubleshooting - Insignia NS-HBTSS116 User Manual

Fifthment asked a question. I have two Insignia Fire TV devices. I have the 55" and the 58". After the most recent update Fire OS 6. Sometimes it never comes back and I'm forced to reset the TV via menu or remote hold select and play!

On Netflix the video will be playing and then all of a sudden it will buffer indefinitely and when I go back to the menu or exit and come back all sound is gone. The audio is gone everywhere, the Amazon menu also and in every app.

On YouTube the video will glitch and repeat itself and then the audio is gone. On other apps sometimes there is no visual que and the audio is just gone. At first I thought it was a storage memory glitch.

On the 55" model we had an issue where sound in many apps would be like 2 seconds behind the video and it turned out to be a storage issue. So I did the same thing on the 58" and deleted many apps getting to 1. Amazon and Insignia are very good TVs but having only 4.

And using an SD card would be good if that wasn't also buggy as heck! I added an SD card to get my live TV video to go beyond 2 minutes and it worked for a day and then went back to 2 minutes and just to get it to work I had to format the flash memory to internal storage and then back to external. It was a joke but this is annoying. My audio drops out two to three times a night and sometimes a reset doesn't fix it and I'm forced to pull the plug for 30 seconds.

This is a software issue or unplugging wouldn't work. And I was going to try and hard reset and start over but Amazon should know about this and if it was the update it's going to happen again. I am here to provide anything Amazon needs to get to the bottom of this. I'm sure many people are experiencing this bug but it was hard for me to find the place to report it!?

I don't have this new issue with my 55" model. Please help! Storage Capacity: 1. Also weird is my 55" model shows NA North America and 19 at the end to designate while my 58" shows 20 I'm guessing meaning year model. Also the 58" model is gone from Amazon and BestBuy while the original 55" and below " 19" models are still for sale. Was there a hardware bug?!

Please let me know if you continue to experience this issue. After the update we lose audio for quite sometime.

Hopefully a new update soon will correct the issue. No offense Alex, and I know my post was long but that's your job, did you even read my post? Thanks Lucas for confirming that I'm not crazy, lol. I sent a message to Insignia support and they asked me to unplug the tv, what a joke and amateur move. I don't think they are going to be any help but please email them Lucas so they know it's more than one person.

I also found that in Live TV mode the audio goes out every few minutes for a few minutes and then comes back on and does this cycle over and over forever! I think it's a system error also as the live TV buffer video so you can rewind and fast forward for two minutes and I think this is also being affected by this issue. So not even live TV is safe for me to watch now that I can't use any of the apps! The tv is unusable! This needs to be dealt with ASAP! I was also told the 58 inch was a limited model and they won't be making them anymore?!

How come I've gotten more out of "other" forums then the official Amazon ones? Insignia wants to send a Geek Squad team to my house for this hardware issue but they don't seem to realize it's not hardware issue if the audio works.

Arg, I'm lost as they simply need to rollback the last update! Lucas, this seems to be a huge bug with these TVs, just search Google for, "insignia fire tv edition tv speakers wont turn on".

I found over 30 people with different sizes of the same TV that have the same issue! I was also going to post mine also says tv speakers are "off" and won't let me turn them on. I did a hard reset deleted everything from device and memory but the issue was still there. I knew it would still be there as the update is still installed. I was able to fix mine temporarily by plugging in headphones and then unplugging them.

And yes, using a sound bar will fix it but let Insignia buy you one, screw Amazon and them! But please Lucas, call Insignia so they can report this bug. The more people who report it we might get it fixed! The weird thing is I could usually get the speakers to work by pulling the plug and then holding the power button for a few seconds and then turning it back on. But that stopped working so I tried the headphone jack and that did it.

Once the headphones were unplugged the sound started to come from the speakers and it said "on" again. I also used to have good results with powering off and back on. But that stopped working. Yeah, powering on and off use to fix mine but it stopped working. Then it go so bad even after hard resettings it didn't work but the headphone trick does it. The Geek Squad just called me and I sent him pics of my model and serial and they are reviewing the situation.

My cousin has the same TV and he has no issues but others with different models and sizes of the same "family" of Fire TVs are known to experience this issue. I expect a sound bar, a new TV or a fixed version of mine. Also Lucas did you ever experience the app issues? I started to get buffering issues on Netflix and the Live TV the audio comes on and off.

Same with YouTube and some apps simply crash. My cousin who lives in Tennessee and also has the 58 inch model is now having the audio drop outs. I found out this issue is affecting hundreds of people. Ok, after the Geek Squad guy came and installed the new mainboard the tv is working good. But it updated to the newest version Fire OS 6. Also my cousin has the same 58 inch TV and his got the update a couple weeks ago but it only just started experiencing the audio issues.

So after the install my TV now thinks it's a 55 inch, lol. They must have sent the wrong board. They sent me the 55 inch board instead of the 58 inch one. I'm hoping there is no long term effects or other odd side effects from this. I have gotten a few "system components" updates and I was hoping that these would fix these headphone speakers off bug. But everyone who has this issue needs to call Insignia and report it so the engineering team can work on a fix and be notified at I'll post back Inna few days and let you know how it's going.

Maybe I'm ok now that my TV thinks it's a 55 inch?! Did you ever get a full resolution? I'm finally getting a tech out to look at my TV prior to it going past warranty. I've had this issue since I bought it during last years black friday, but since I rarely used my TV but plan on it I wanted to get it fixed.

Was yours ever permanently solved? After that Fire OS version did things calm down with the new mainboard? This question was never answered so please unmark "answered" Amazon you friggin cheats! Same problem here with this tv. Everything was fine until Amazon updated the Firestick OS without my permission.

Now my audio comes and goes. This tv is only 4 months old and has been messed up for months. Telling me to unplug my TV is not a solution. Fixing the Fire Software or Insignia hardware is your obligation.

I had the same issue. Insignia provided me these instructions and it worked. Please unplug the TV from the outlet. After you release the button, please use any wired headphones to connect them on the back of the TV for 5 minutes then unplug. Plug the TV back and turn it on. Let's test the TV now. Trying to figure out if I should just buy an aux speaker, since this TV is in a rental property. I also have an Insignia 58" FireTV. To get it to work, I switch the "Input" to "Composite", hit the "Home" key and now the internal speakers are re-enabled.

Very clear sound, and bass is as good as you would expect for a speaker of this size. Certainly good enough for rock, leaves a little to be desired for hip hop really deep bass however the 'subwoofer out' jack will solve that issue by adding a separate powered sub! Decently loud. Definitely more than good enough for a small room or an apartment where loudness could be an issue.
