Armed with a long list of videos and podcasts for reference, I had imagined my role at TEDxGateway in Mumbai as a spectator and storyteller-after-the-fact. The activities involved getting a feel for cool gadgets like the Dot watch a braille smartwatch that lets the blind read texts , interacting with renowned speakers such as Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde, and telling the world, via digital slingshot, your idea of how to live your best possible life. Split into four sessions, the event highlighted a whirlwind of innovations from artists, designers and engineers. Here are just a few. Ten-year old Ishita Katyal , the youngest TEDx organiser in the Asia Pacific region, discussed the complex process that children go through to decide what they want to be as adults. Ishita Katyal, a schoolgirl from Pune , was fed up of being asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. The question took for granted that she couldn't be anything right now and she was determined to disprove that assumption. Her talk was aptly titled "What do you want to be now? She wanted to join the team of organisers and was asked to go through two rounds of interviews on Skype with global TEDx volunteers. The year-old student of Vibgyor High school had to speak without any notes during the New York event and her mother admitted to being nervous as she sat in the audience and watched.

Ten volunteers ran from the ground floor to the art room to abduct duct tape at regular intervals, paint smeared the back of hands as they performed last minute touch ups, and in the centre of it all, the Core team ran around with speakers, checking the power points and yelling out instructions.
