Faculty Speaker Series
The purpose of the Faculty Lecture Series is to share the vast and interesting knowledge of various faculty members, while providing a sense of community, allowing the opportunity for faculty from various disciplines to gather, and providing faculty the chance to learn about other disciplines. The Academic Senate is responsible for recruiting speakers and determining dates and times for lectures.
Light food and beverages are supplied by Academic Affairs for each lecture. The following are expectations for the Faculty Lecture Series. Beginning Oct. Toggle navigation Academic Senate. Faculty Lecture Series. The presenter will usually be a Cuesta Faculty member, but may be an outside speaker.
Any faculty member can nominate a presenter or volunteer to present, but nobody will be required to speak unwillingly. Presenters will be selected and organized by the Academic Senate President, with the objective of including faculty from a variety of disciplines. The goal is for 3 lectures each semester, evenly spaced throughout. The presenter will be asked to provide a short biography and abstract of their talk approximately three weeks before the lecture.
Although the target audience for the lectures are faculty, any Cuesta employee, student, or member of the public may attend up to room capacity. Lectures will be 50 minutes or less, at the discretion of the speaker. If the speaker has special needs, such as props, furniture, use of water, etc, this should be discussed with the Academic Senate President before the date and time of the lecture are determined in order to assure adequate facilities.

About the Cottrell Speaker Series
Open Educational Resources OER are free and freely accessible digital media including text, images, video, learning modules and etc. Due to their digital distribution, they can be accessed anywhere and anytime by students through an internet connection. OER are easy to keep up to date and modify for a variety of course-related applications while supplanting expensive materials students normally have to purchase. Although this talk dovetails with ideas explored in previous talks in this series, you are not expected to have attended them. Annie Mendenhall College of Arts and Humanities. In , investigators from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare visited Armstrong State College to report on the state of its desegregation activities. For two decades afterward, Armstrong, nearby Savannah State College, and the entire University System of Georgia were part of a national effort to enforce postsecondary desegregation across the South amidst the tumultuous political and legal shifts on the issue of desegregation. This presentation will describe the history of postsecondary desegregation enforcement, focusing on how desegregation plans in Georgia and other states influenced educational policies on remediation, retention, and educational access. Speaker Series
The department provides comprehensive first and second year language courses in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, ancient Greek, and classical Latin. Students from our program have gone on to successful jobs in commerce, communications, government, and higher education. A very high percentage of the students who take introductory German continue on to take upper division classes. The authors featured in the Spring speaker series represent the languages and cultures taught in the Department of Languages and Literatures of Europe and the Americas in wider European, Eurasian and global contexts, establishing ties between people across time and space and between academic fields within CALL programs.
