Award Abstract Triangle Lectures in Combinatorics. This proposal supports the Fall and Spring meetings. Combinatorics is a growing and important area of mathematics. The states of North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee have recently seen an influx of research strength in combinatorics and adjacent areas. In particular, there are remarkably many tenure-track researchers, senior researchers and graduate students in combinatorics and related fields at various colleges and universities within about hours drive of the Research Triangle region of North Carolina Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

During the event the EERI-NCSU student chapter president gave an introduction to earthquake engineering, discussed the objectives of the student chapter, presented the officers, talked about all the activities the EERI has and also briefly introduced the activities planned for the semester.
Students and faculty members attended this session which focused on damage detection methods for reinforced concrete structures. Chad Goodnight, who is a former NC State student, presented this seminar, in which based on the results of an experimental program of 30 circular RC well-confined bridge columns, he talked about new strain limits and showed recommended modifications to current design methods. Louis, MO. Gould is a practicing structural engineer with over 23 years of experience in the design, construction and rehabilitation of major structures in all regions of the United States.
The objective of this tour was to show the structural laboratory at NC State University as well as to show the different ongoing research projects. In the figure below is Dr. Nathan Gould and MS student David Overby explaining his research on high strength steel for seismic applications.
Subsequently, officers had lunch with him after which Dr. Gould gave a presentation on performance based seismic retrofitting. His visit ended with presentations from the officers about their respective research projects. The table below shows the new officers appointed to the Chapter board who will take office on August Signal processing techniques, using experimental and simulated data from detailed non-linear, fiberbased FE models, was employed to validate wavelet-based model-free methodologies for damage detection in reinforced concrete RC structures.
When: Wed. To satisfy the aims of performance based design, levels of damage which interrupt the serviceability of the structure or require more invasive repair techniques must be related to engineering criteria.
An experimental program was devised to assess the performance of thirty circular well-confined bridge columns. A key feature of the experiments is the high fidelity strain data obtained using an optical 3D position measurement system. The goal of the experimental program was to investigate the impact of load history and other design variables on the relationship between strain and displacement, performance strain limits, and the spread of plasticity.
As a result, new performance strain limits and modifications to the current plastic hinge method are recommended for new design. Gould d, D. Louis Breweries. Detaills of the seism mic retrofit o of key buildin ngs will be the impleme exxamined as well w as the co onsideration ns that led to entation of th he overall seeismic prograam for the Breweries.
Pootential changes in the seeismic retrofi fit strategy fo or the Breweries if the current seismicc PBD criteriia were utilizzed will also be discussed d. NC State didn't have a formal graduation ceremony this year because of the coronavirus crisis and as such, there was no commencement speaker. So to help fill the void, former Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson stepped in and provided an uplifting video message to the Class of on Friday as part of a virtual graduation ceremony. In the process, he may also have finally settled the debate over which of his alma maters he should be most closely identified. I got to go there. I played football and baseball and have an amazing time. But I also got my education there. Wilson played three seasons for the Wolfpack, throwing for 8. But despite those accomplishments and the fact that he graduated from State with a degree in communications, there are those that associate him with Wisconsin -- the school at which he played his final season as a graduate transfer. But in his virtual comments to graduates Friday, the Super Bowl champion left little doubt as to where his heart resides.

Albert Bates:. Current projects include a peace-through-permaculture project in Palestine and the Sail Transport Network, moving fair trade goods along coastal routes. We take as a starting point that a confluence of factors — overpopulation, climate change, peak net energy, limits to growth and economic malaise — is auguring a wide-ranging crisis in human civilization, and concomitantly, a search at the margins for alternatives. Laura Lengnick is on the Environmental Studies faculty and serves as the Director of the Sustainable Agriculture Program at Warren Wilson College, a small undergraduate college near Asheville, NC that offers a community-based liberal arts education through a triad of academics, work and service. She is also actively involved in sustainable agriculture research and education efforts in the Asheville region.

She received my Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a concentration in mobile game development. Her overall goal has been on improving K education through computing. Catete's earlier work involved evaluating ways to determine affect in intelligent game-based learning environments, then moved on to developing platforms for social game-based learning both programming and human networking skills. Catete's current research interests address teacher training and curriculum development for computing education. Her dissertation work focused on developing support mechanisms for novice computing teachers assessing high school programming labs, which was recognized with back-to-back Best Paper awards at the international conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education.
