While at home, we stepped up our cleaning practices to help keep ourselves and our families safe and clean. In a recent American Cleaning Institute survey, nearly nine in 10 people said they changed their cleaning habits due to the pandemic and most said they would likely continue these behaviors over the next six months. What also changed was how chores were divided up. According to the survey, four of five parents said that the children helped with chores, including cleaning their rooms, washing dishes, helping with laundry and mopping or vacuuming.

But kids who struggle with focus benefit from having responsibilities at home. Look for tasks with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Here are chores that can be good for kids who struggle with focus. Feeding and caring for family pets tend to involve more simple and straightforward tasks.
Kids who struggle with focus or follow-through might also like taking the dog on a walk. Be specific about a route for the walk, though. Then turn around and come home. Then the cups, and so on. Bonus: After a meal, you can even ask your child to take out the garbage or the recycling. This is another simple task that has a clear beginning and end. On laundry day, have your child gather all the dirty clothes. Your child can go from spot to spot to pick them up.
Your child might even want to sort clothes into groups by lights, darks, and colors. Making the bed is a quick, daily task that can be broken down into smaller steps. You can also show how to arrange stuffed animals or pillows, and how to fold any extra blankets if your child has them.

And 43 percent have given up on keeping their homes germ-free thanks to their pet, despite a fifth 17 percent worrying about the germs they bring in. A spokesman for Vileda, which commissioned the research, said: "People are very close to their pets, which is natural and understandable. The study also found those who let their cat or dog sleep in bed with them do so an average of four times a week, while 44 percent admit this happens every night.
