Joined Mar 2, Messages At the risk of being flamed, I will ask. Are there reversable, non invasive mods that could be done to the Bass channel of a Blackface Bassman that could achieve a Marshall type of tone?

I only use the Bass channel now with a jumper occasionally. Otherwise it goes unused. The amp has already had the routine maintenance of caps and grounded power cord, so it is not a virgin any longer. I am not looking to drill holes or cut anything up. Just looking for component value swaps or possibly rerouting parts of the circuit.

It would be cool to have two separate, "useable" channels. I was thinking along the lines of a JTM45 type of flavor. The Normal channel is good to go as is.

Any tips would be appreciated, also if this should be posted in a different section please let me know. Thank you. Xpensive Wino Active member. The first two of those have only 2 gain stages in the 'Normal' channel THE AB has 3 gain stages in each channel IMe, the AB is a 'hot' guitar amp that is already capable of yielding some agressive guitar tones, and daisy chaining the channels yields that extra meat I like the results of daisy chaining the AB's channels The simplest would be to build the same preamp topography as in the Normal channel but with different voicing Youcoudl build a 5F6A preamp there.

It would require a more extensive rewire You might also see that there is an unused triode in V2 that many folks use for added gain. Much has been written concerning mods to these circuits. GP published some articles He did believe that the distortion should occur at the same time in all of the stages. AChieving tha tis the trick, I would think. Big Al Well-known member. Bassmans are great as is, I own several in various forms. What Wally says about the AB is the truth. I have gotten in plenty of arguments with those that feel the early, first version AA is a better guitar amp. These amps are just stupidly good sounding and way, away undervalued.

If you want Marshally tones then get a Marshally amp, or find one of the many great Marshally Pedals that work for you and save the amp as is. Works for me, very, very well. Dishimyuh Active member. Joined Mar 8, Messages 1, I have a Bassman that Roy Blankenship got ahold of in thereabout. Hargrett played thru for a time. I had a Mojo cab made for it with a The bass channel does sound like an old 4 hole marshall. But it can always be dialed down. What I know about amps is very little. I guess its all reversible. I do know there is a stacked pot on the modded channel. Either at the amp or guitar it cleans up It will hang in there with the Bogner Shiva and only 47lbs!!

The Bass channel is rather weak when it comes to overdrive. Yes, daisy chaining gives me more umph, and maybe I will leave well enough alone. Although I have heard some awesome results from modded Bass channels. I was really wondering if any of you guys had first hand experience with specific mods for that channel.

Hearing is believing and I know such results can be achieved, I just don't want to butcher a vintage amp. Having a typical blackface channel with the Normal inputs and a Marshall flavored channel with the Bass inputs, in my opinion would be awesome.

My band does a lot of music that both tones are used and I think this amp could really kill in a multi voiced setup.

If you have not been trained to work with high voltage then have an amp technician service your amp. Never touch the amplifier chassis with one hand while probing with the other hand because a lethal shock can run between your arms through your heart. Use just one hand when working on a powered amp. The "" in the model name comes from the circuit change date of The silverface amps are surprisingly similar to the coveted Fender blackface line of amps so many blackface mods and tweaks apply to the silverface lineup. It's pretty easy to "blackface" these amps for a full generational regression.

I did a bunch of mods to it and it sounds great. Wife is making me sell a lot of gear to pay off debt. I figured I could just build another or an AB

A quick question apologies for being a bit daft! Are the two 'instrument' inputs duplicate channels, or are they voiced differently? Can 2 guitars be plugged in at once, or would that cause issues? User Name Stay logged in? Hi there, I finished building a 5e3 clone recently. It works and sounds good, but a half power switch I implemented seems to produce fizzy and crackling kind of distortion when turned on. On regular power is seems to sound good. I've made a 5f6a bassman using similar mod, and it sounds great.

The Ceriatone 5F6-A amplifier is based on the tweed-covered amplifier of the same designation. This is, in our opinion, perhaps the most important amplifier ever produced, as it served as the foundation of a specific British company that forever changed the sound of music with the JTM45 amplifier. The 5F6-A is different in topology than our other American Classics. The preamp and tonestack are also different, and in particular laid the foundation for Treble-Middle-Bass tonestacks that came after. Like other Ceriatone amps, we have labored carefully to select the finest components to suit the design, and the 5F6-A uses our specially designed custom transformers for superior reliability, frequency response, and feel.

Fender Bassman

The Fender Bassman is a bass amplifier series introduced by Fender during Besides being a popular and important amplifier in its own right, the Bassman also became the foundation on which Marshall and other companies built their high-gain tube amplifiers. During , the Fender 5B6 Bassman amplifier was introduced as a combo amplifier cabinet that included the amplifier chassis combined with one 15" speaker. It was designed to generate 26 watts at an 8 ohm impedance load, and offered a cathode-based bias. From through the spring of , Fender produced approximately model 5B6 Bassman amplifiers serial numbers — In the cabinet designs were changed to the so-called "Wide Panel" design, with a 5 inch wide tweed covered panel above and below a wider swath of grill cloth.

EDIT: My Bassman is now fixed there was a wire coming off the power transformer that was loose and causing a grounding problem.

Are you familiar with the Traynor YGM4? I'm interedted in doing the same type of master volume mod to my amp but don't have much understanding in the area of tube amps. Seems like a pretty simular layout. Post a Comment.
