Anti skating weight pro ject
The anti-skating weight is a small metal cylinder secured by a piece of fishing line. The small loop on the right hand side in the image above attaches to a pin on the back of the tonearm see below , and is supported by a second pin or a wire support arm. Once it's looped on, the anti-skating weight stops the tonearm from drifting back towards the outer edge of your record, helping make sure that the cartridge sits in the middle of the groove so you get an accurate, balanced sound in both channels. You can see in the image below that the anti-skating pin has three different rings on it for the weight to hang from.

Post by Hawkeye » 02 Jul I've seen many mentions around the forums about people that do not use the anti-skate weight on their turntable. Since I got my Debut I have had a couple of records that get stuck on bad spots that would play through fine on my other table.
I have also noticed that if I use the blank section of my test record, you know the one to check anti-skate that many people say not to use, the needle very quick slides to the outside of the record. I've tried all three of the notches for the string with no discernible difference.
Oh, and the table, the isolation platforms it is on and the counter top under them are all leveled side-to-side and front-to-back using a carpenter's level. So I tried removing the weight to see about the skips and as I suspected the records play through now.
So this begs the question, do you use your weight, have you modified it to use a lighter weight? Post by swingburn » 02 Jul I bought my Debut from a fella that lost the weight and installed one of his own.
I don't know if the one he installed is the same weight as the stock one. I did notice that when using this weight, the arm would move towards the arm rest quite quickly. So I took it off. I doubt it makes much of a difference in sound quality. I might order a new stock weight and install it though I doubt this is good for the record. Also, if I place the needle at the end of the record, somewhere in the runout space, the needle will skate quickly into the label area.
Probably not good for the needle. Post by Hawkeye » 02 Jul I've been reading some other threads here and it seems that the experiences with anti-skate are all over the board. Right now I'm running without and hearing no distortions at all. In addition I'm not noticing any untoward running across the platter either at the beginning or end of the recording.
So for now I'll going to leave it as is, and see how it behaves on other records. I'm tracking at 1. I might also add that the weight that came with my Debut is 3. Seems rather heavy for a 1. Post by 13oots2 » 02 Jul You could experiment with small push on fishing weights, we call them split shot in the UK. That way you could add or subtract weight until the optimum was achieved.
You could easily look up the exact weights of different sized shot and somebody could provide the weight of the original bias weight. I knew my days as a professional fisherman and angling teacher would come in handy but never on a vinyl forum. Post by Hawkeye » 02 Jul Found a small rubber shim from an old computer motherboard and added an extra headshell screw and nut, a little sewing thread and came up with 1.
Blank test record now shows the needle sitting perfectly still. I do, however, think the Debut III can be run fine without anti-skating and might be better off with less than the stock weight. Post by Conrad Hoffman » 02 Jul I believe a 3. The AR tables used no anti-skate for years, but it was also normal for the stylus to wear unevenly giving slightly shorter life.
Thus, I'd use the anti-skate on any modern table. The arm remaining stationary on a groove-less area isn't precisely correct, but it does mean you aren't far off.
I've never been able to hear sonic differences for different anti-skate settings. Another thing to look at if you use a high compliance cartridge is the cantilever position with respect to the body. Look at it with the arm raised. Look at it while playing an LP. If the anti-skate is set correctly, the cantilever will be at the same angle viewed from the front or top. Without anti-skate the stylus will usually be pulled slightly sideways.

What Is Anti Skate On A Turntable?
Between school and downtime, most kids try one or more extracurricular activities. These classes and programs allow children and teens to pursue a special interest that's outside of the typical educational curriculum, including sports, the arts, special-interest clubs , and technology. If you have a busy family schedule already, you may wonder whether extracurricular activities are worth the time and money. Indeed, there is plenty of evidence that enrichment programs outside the classroom boost children's social and academic skills. Luckily, there are more choices than ever for kids to find a pursuit that may ignite a true passion. Depending on whether the program you're considering for your child is physical, intellectual, or creative in nature, specific extracurricular activities can build skills in different developmental areas. However, research has shown that extracurricular activities in general can:. You might be surprised to learn how many different types of extracurricular activities there are to choose from in schools and communities.

The science has been clear for at least a year and a half and I would argue for much longer. All councillors on the committee voted in favour of the proposed tax-supported budget and rate-supported budget. Only gyms in high schools will initially be available for outside groups, as elementary schools are being prioritized by the board for possible use as COVID vaccination clinics for children. Tonar Anti-Skating weight
During playback of a record, a force is produced that pushes the tonearm towards the center due to the friction between the stylus and the record surface. This inside force is called skating force and needs to be counteracted or balanced out. Otherwise, it may affect the sound quality and make the needle more prone to skipping. The device that prevents a turntable from skating is called anti-skate. Most turntables include this features.

To achieve the best sound quality while causing minimal damage to your vinyl, it is imperative that a turntable be correctly setup, particularly where adjustments of the tonearm and cartridge are concerned. With your turntable unpacked and the platter installed as per the supplied documentation, the first critical step is to ensure that your turntable is situated on a stable, level surface. A tilted turntable will cause the platter to spin in an uneven, inconsistent motion, resulting in speed fluctuations and hindering the ability of the stylus to track the record. Many turntables such as the Technics series offer adjustable feet which can be used to set the level.
