From all those who are active in the era and compared the two, at least semi-critically, they all preferred the D-7s as a preference to the bass qualities attributed to 12" woofers vs 15" woofers generally tight and neat Having had towers with 12" woofers in them before my D-7s, I was well aware of the ability to get "more than enough" bass from a 12" without having to resort to a 15" woofer- also because the room I would be using them wasn't enormous enough to benefit from such a large woofer.
D-9s are legends because they were the big daddy of them all at the time, however - from what I've been able to gather- the discerning listeners always chose d-7s.
In a perfect world, you could listen to each and draw your own conclusions. If I had the space and a W amp lying around, I might have just jumped on the D-9s for the cool factor, but my days of wanting to be cool are long gone All I can say is that the more power you can feed them, the better I figure D-9s would probably like even more power on tap to crack the foundation, so consider your overall set up as well.
Lot's of ranting, sorry I have one of those too so I understood lol!! After a re-foam job, hooked them up and didn't like what I heard. Well after repositioning, unhooking from a receiver, and hooking to a Amp Crown let me say I'm impressed! In fact their playing now. Its a true sound. Highs are piercing at times, mids have good balance, and the woofer is punchy. Not punching like the LS but overall shes a keeper. My Brother wants to borrow a pair for the holiday and I have to decide which ones to let go.
His SE's wont make it in time nor will my SE rebuilds be ready do to bad tweeter diaphragm. Every ear is different but we can agree that its a pair of CVegas that we all like.

Here is a pair of Cerwin Vega AT floor speakers. They are in very good condition but are best described as party speakers, not Audiophile speakers. While they are very "presentable", they don't make the standard in my wifes living room I bought these as good old loud Rock'n'Roll speakers, and they excel at that.
