Signal generator buffer amplifier op

I am a beginner in electronics. I got myself a second-hand analog oscilloscope but I don't have a function generator. So, as a first project, I am trying to design a circuit to use any device's sound output PC, mobile phone, etc. This will allow me to start learning about designing and how to use an analog oscilloscope. I have been reading about op-amps in the Art of Electronics and on various websites, so I have based my design around op-amps. I would like to have some input about my design, if it has any glaring shortcomings and things that I have missed as a beginner.

Even when the ideal rectangular waveform a fast-rising signal is applied to the input of an op-amp, its output does not provide the ideal rectangular waveform as shown in Figure 3.

As shown in Figure 3, in the case of an op-amp with a low slew rate, a rectangular input signal appears as a trapezoidal signal at the output, and a sinusoidal input appears as a triangular signal at the output.

As shown in Figure 2, an op-amp with a higher cut-off frequency provides a greater bandwidth with the same closed-loop gain. If you use an op amp with a low slew rate, the shape of the waveform will change and distortion will worsen. Its maximum output frequency f max can be calculated from the slew rate. For simplicity, we will first explain the case of using op-amp in unity gain. Waveform distortion occurs when the maximum value of the output signal differentiated by time becomes higher than this SR.

Then, no waveform distortion occurs if the maximum change differential value in the amplitude of the input signal is less than the slew rate. Therefore, the maximum frequency that does not cause slew-inducted waveform distortion is theoretically calculated as follows, where A is the input amplitude. The same can be said for unity gain. In practice, it is necessary to set f max , allowing an adequate margin for the required frequency.

What is the maximum frequency at which an op-amp can be used? To use an op-amp at high frequency, it is necessary to take two factors into consideration: slew rate and cut-off frequency unity gain. 10 Useful Function Generator Circuits Explained

Effective date : LEYDE 3,, Leyde, Seattle, Wash. A counter control circuit associated with the timing signal generator and a VF'O counter control circuit determine whether the number of signals from the VFO during the set time interval is too high or too low for the selected setting of the frequency selection switches. A logic control network then serves to adjust the parameters of the VFO so that the output frequency thereof is either increased or decreased. The duration for counting output signals from the VFO during each updating cycle as well as the division factor associated with the lowest order counting unit in the counter associated with the VFO are adjusted in response to adjustment of the highest order selection switch in the frequency selection portion of the system so that the dialing resolution and accuracy of the overall system remain essentially constant throughout the entire range of system operation. Accurate frequency synthesizers operating on the basis are harmonically related to the frequency of a reference of generating output signals of a selected frequency which crystal oscillator are presently available. While such synthesizers operate to provide highly accurate selected frequencies the cost of such equipment is high.

Design of a Powerful Signal Generator Output Stage

Signal generators produce defined electrical signals with a characteristic progression over time. If these signals exhibit a simple, periodic waveform, such as with sine, square, or triangular waves, the generators are called function generators. They are often used to check the function of electrical circuits or assemblies. A defined signal is applied to the input and connected at the output to a corresponding measuring device for example, an oscilloscope.

In earlier work, we examined the concept of negative feedback.

This lab will be done in sub-teams of two or three. Plan your time and workload accordingly. Bring your protoboard! The instructions for this lab are not as detailed as for some of the earlier labs. You are expected to plan out your experiments and fill in the blanks. Ask a proctor or professor for help if you can't figure out what to do.

Electrical Engineering Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for electronics and electrical engineering professionals, students, and enthusiasts. It only takes a minute to sign up. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. Probably a silly question but I'm still a total noob on electronics. I got my hands on an old non-functional XR based function generator and I wanted to bring it back to life and in the meantime upgrade it with newer components.

Disclaimer: I have started learning about programming MCUs a couple of weeks ago, so my qustion might seem ridiculous, please don't blame. I observe some weird signal distortion when I connect a signal generator to the ADC input of the board and read values from it. The oscilloscope I own has a built in signal generator which is used for debugging purposes. The generator is configured as follows:.

A standard signal generator produces known and controllable voltages. It is extensively used in the testing of radio receivers and transmitters. The instrument is provided with a means of modulating the carrier frequency, which is indicated by the dial setting on the front panel. The modulation is indicated by a meter. Modulation may be done by a sine wave, square wave, triangular wave or a pulse. The elements of a conventional signal generator are shown in Fig.
