Thread starter ViktorG Start date Sep 9, ViktorG Novice Member. I have a problem with my amp, whenever I plug it in it immediately flashes the red light two times. I can't even switch it on, which is a pity because I really like the thing! Before it happened every now and then that it overheated and switched off.
I had it serviced once, which didn't change much at all. Now I don't even get the 30 minutes of music that I had before. I figure the warning system is broken. Is it possible to shortcut the warning system? Anybody with a smiliar problem? This happens regardless whether speakers are connected or not. I'd be thankful for any help! Maybe this helps in identifying the problem? From where and how ago did you buy it? If it is still under warranty, best thing is to replace it. If not then you need to get it looked at properly, not just a servicing.
Looks like there is a fault there from the very beginning and had got worse. It may not be worth the cost to repair it, you need to get a few quotes. I had this issue with a A I believe Unfortunately that was many amps ago, so I can't remember any more than that. I've also heard reports of the micro controllers going bad in these amps. Best advice would be to get some quotes and decide if it's worth repairing.
Steve fromYate Novice Member. I have only just discovered this forum whilst researching the same problem on my elderly Azur A amp.
It seems that there have been a lot of problems with this, judging by the amount of correspondenceon the subject, What I have discovered is that you can override the protection system by holding down the end two function buttons ie the MP 3 and Talk Mon buttons on my amp at the same time whilst powering it up.
This is clearly a bit risky if there is a genuine fault with your speakers etc, but I have done this several times now without a problem. On the basis that the amp would not work and not worth repairing I had nothing to lose.
So far it has saved the expense of a new amp! I tried this with a a v2 no dice. I usually get a solid red protect and all input lights lit. Is there a special reset based on model and version? Thanks Guys. Have the same problem as you: Make a pop sound on the loudspeakers when switch on the standby button, and the protection red lights start flashing.
Doesn't matter the volume level position. I went to official service, and they didn't give me a solution, just told me I had to switch a new motherboard! So, I still continue with the problem. I don't know what to do, I'm not sure if shorcut the 'protection' system. I have read in this forum that perhaps some discrete component as resistor or capacitor may be damaged What I am doing now is not a solution, but it keeps safe the speakers.
I have only a pair of speakers connected to the am, in circuit A. I always switch circuit B when switch off the amp. When the incident occurs, all the power peak goes to circuit B, that it free of charge. After several resets, the amp decides to work properly, and then switch to the A.
Please report if there is a solution Thanks. Daniel, Your post got me reinterested in this, so i pulled it up and went through everything again. I was shocked when i finally got sound out of the headphone jack using 6. However, no sound out to speakers. So i plugged in an external amp and got sound from the preamp outs.
So, at least now i can use it as a remote controlled preamp. This probably supports your theory that the dsp board is the problem. Hi Niles Cant you get sound out of your amp when you switch on the amp and it starts normally?
Nevertheless, I can report two "minor" problems: 1. Sometimes, ocasionally, the sound in one speaker turns dirty, with some interference, like when cabling not properly connected. In the same way, ocasionally, one speaker get no sound at all. Its a pity; the CA A gives a smooth and clear sound, that I really loves it If anybody wants to try repair itself BlueWizard Distinguished Member. It sounds, if I interpret correctly, like the Pre-Amp section is working, and only the power section is shutting down.
Make sure you don't have a shorted wire on the output. A single near invisible stray strand of wire is all it takes to be seen as a short by the amp. Also, where is the amp placed? Is there anything on top of it? Is there any chance something conductive has fallen down inside of the amp? A single flake of metal or a small tip of a lead pencil would be enough to short the internal electronics. Though a very slim chance of success, disconnect the amp from the wall electrical power, turn the amp ON, wait a while in the hope that the capacitors will bleed down, remove the cover, then turn the amp upside down and shake it.
Hoping that is some small bit of something is causing an internal short, and will fall out. While the amp is open, inspect it carefully. Look for resistors that look charred or discolored.
Look for capacitors that are discolored or bulging. Contact Cambridge with all the information you have gather and see if they have any thoughts about the possibility of repairing it.
BlueWizard said:. Click to expand Hi again. I couldn't open and have a look inside, because of lack of time. But I've made new "discoveries": 1.
It only can be switched on by the bottom power switch and pressing the standby button in the front pannel and it begins to make its show, the pop on the speakers, etc, etc. When I get it working well, I can use remote control to adjust the volume level, or switch between the audio source inputs, but cannot switch off to stand-by mode.
When switch it off pressing the standby button on th front pannel, it ALWAYS trigs the CAP5 protection, forcing a "pop" sound in the speakers if I don't switch to the "B" speakers circuit to avoid it on the speakers It seems a damage in the standby process too Remaining tests: - Try it without speakers connected - Open the device during operation and have a look for a damage looking component. The problems with most of this series of amps is the woeful heatsink cambridge put in there, it just doesn't do the job, the heatsink gets too hot and the protection circuit shuts the amplifier down to protect itself.
If its a solid red light and wont come out of standby then somethings wrong in there, burnt resistors, shorted resistors, capacitors and blown outputs are amongst the long list of things I have replaced on these over the years.

John A. Any line-level output such as tape connected to any line-level input that is probably all of them, but do not choose "phono" should be OK. I haven't quite got the picture, however. You must have an original source CD player; whatever. If you connect that to each of them in turn, then the speakers directly to the same unit, you should hear something in both cases. You should also be able to use the pre-amp stage of either of them with the power-amp stage of the other. Try them separately, then connected the other way.

My search for a great sounding, affordably priced high-end system brought me to two very different companies, Cambridge Audio and Era Design. The former is a year-old British firm that has recently transformed itself into a first-rate electronics designer and manufacturer. After experimenting with many off-the-shelf woofers for the Era Design 4, Kelly proposed to Signal Path that he design a driver from scratch just for the model 4—which is exactly what he did. Brackets allow the 4 to be wallmounted if you choose not to mount them on stands or on a bookshelf.

Azur integrated amplifier 3. Thank you for purchasing this Cambridge Audio Azur range amplifier. These version 2 models.
The company lets a single basic amplifier evolve into a variety of models depending on the situation: thus the Azur A is the junior sibling of another fine product, the A. The main difference? Otherwise, the two amps are all but identical, meaning that the A looks just as good as the more-expensive version and is just as well built, with a high-quality look and feel to its aluminium fascia and casework. The amp also has two sets of speaker outputs and a headphone socket, and a remote control comes as standard.
