Last year we tried out the Fender Mustang GT 40 , a portable guitar amplifier with Bluetooth connectivity and an impressive range of built-in effects. Now it has a dinkier brother, the Mustang LT The new model has a smaller cabinet, a lower price and fewer features but it can still produce a fair spread of gorgeous guitar tones.
Is this the perfect practice amp? The Mustang LT25 is a compact 25W solid-state guitar amplifier with an 8in speaker and a built-in digital effects processor, which simulates the sound of various classic amplifiers and can add drive, modulation, delay and reverb effects. The amp also includes a built-in tuner and a USB connector that you can use to capture a high-quality recording of your playing on a computer or iPad.

If anything, the amount of choice can be somewhat overwhelming, with interfaces replacing your amp, your amp doubling as an interface, all with pretty much everything you actually need under the hood. Fender is no newcomer to the modeling amp game, its Mustang amps have always impressed us with the number of features, sound quality and ease of use. Scrolling through each one is made easy by using the large encoder to the right of the screen. Effects vary from utilitarian compression and gates, through to some more exotic sounds such as an octaver, an auto-wah and some surprisingly high-quality delays and reverbs. Call us luddites, but we think the Mustang LT is pitching itself perfectly. We enjoyed the un-fussy simplicity and interesting sounds, and most importantly, it made us want to keep playing!
