My friend has it. Very nice, great sound, dynamics and huge fast bass, I should buy one of these. Well, to put simply, it sounds quite awesome, able to control literally any speaker load without difficulty with very solid slam, very transparent, excellent soundstage focus and depth, and problably the best bass control you can buy.
Krells in general are considered by their critics as harsh and cold-sounding, however fine tuning can be achieved by using different interconnects and speaker cables. In a nutshell an excellent choice. Best regards Emilios. Correction: Just found out the price in Germany is Euros. Gorecon Guest. I too have been running a Krell i for a while. When I first heard it in a demonstration it sounded quite harsh and bright.
They were attached to the speakers which I also bought, some Sonus Faber Concertinos. So the person let me borrow the Krell and try them out in my own lounge. This made a huge difference.
The Concertinos are not large speakers and do not produce much bass. But when they were in my own lounge the difference was staggering. The detail of the sound was incredible and bass levels rose slightly. I put this down to the room I demoed the Krell in. This was a long and narrow. For once having a smaller room seems to pay off! Not heard the xi. I am scared too as I am sure I would want one. The cost of these are out of my range at the moment though. Would recommend a i one.
But get a demo first. Gorecon, the Krell agent here actually has the Xi partnered with the Concertinos and with Transparent Audio cables - what cables are you using? When I bought my Kef Model 4's, I had managed to bring in a number of high-end integrated amps to audition and honestly, nothing could control my speakers especially bass as well as the Krell. I have been truly addicted to Krell since then, and it is my intention funds permitting of course that as soon as my new house is built, I am going ahead with an all-Krell system.
Although I am frighten to ask. As it would probably make me want to upgrade straight away How did you think the Conertinos sounded with the xi?
Good luck with the Krell system! Cheers Rob. Excellent control, very clean, with just the right amount of bass. Clarity, focus, soundstage, depth, slam, punch - you name it - I was very impressed indeed. The agent has hooked the system up using Transparent Audio speaker cables and interconnects and although he is not the agent for these cables, he tells me that it's what Krell themselves use.
In a nutshell, a very very impressive and indeed addictive system! At the risk of going slightly OT, I have a i to sell. Look in classified Has anyone had any experience of this cd player?
Thanks and best regards Emilios. Well folks, After a heck of a busy and hectic day at work, I decided to brighten up my day a bit and finally took the plunge and bought myself the Krell KAVxi integrated amp and the Krell SACD Standard cd player, both of which I had been considering during the past few weeks to upgrade from my previous Krells. As soon as I hooked and powered them up I was not very impressed - as expected - firstly because they must be allowed some time to warm up to their operating temp.
Well, as they have been playing unstoppably for the past hours, the sound is definitely getting much much better - I actually think they already play much better than my well run-in previous Krell setup they better be at those prices! Apart from sonic quality and performance I'm very impressed as always with Krell with the rock-solid build quality, the brushed aluminium looks, the quality of all controls and connections. Well yes I am quite happy with my purchase and I'm really looking forward to a proper run-in and loads of enjoyable music listening.
Thats one of the things I find difficult to deal with in the hi-fi world. Your intitial response was one of disappointment, but improved as you went along. Most changes of hi-fi equipment might result in thinking "is this any better than before". I bought a DAC once and again like you initally was slightly disappointed with it.
It was only after listening to lots of music that you start to hear those small sometime large differences. You came from a system that was very capable anyway and laws of dimishing returns start to come in more aggressively? I am sure as you run in the near gear it will sound alot better. If you don't want the Krell xi let me know! Happy listening! Gorecon said:. You gotta be joking - I'm absolutely loving it - it's been playing continuously all day today since 7 am!
And although the diffeerence is definitely not tangible, indeed like you said, small or large differences in familiar cd's make all the difference. Well understanding neighbours actually, although the volume level was fairly 'sociable'. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads G. Replies 13 Views Oct 7, Gazwire. David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally. I have started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills.

K rell has long been the best known and on the whole the most credible full line producer at the high end. The company now includes loudspeakers and SACD players as part of its portfolio, and a universal player is on the roadmap to accompany the pre and power amps and CD players that make up the core of the Krell range, alongside the home theatre processors and multi-channel amps that have been added in the last few years. DVD-Audio is on the roadmap as part of universal player project currently in development. Krell amplifiers went through a fallow mid-life period some years ago, but has recovered spectacularly with the powerful and capable FPB range, which is aimed directly at the cost no object audiophile end of the market. But Krell is also interested in more moderate price points, and for some time has produced reasonably priced integrated amplifiers, of which the KAVxi is the latest, and let's make no bones about it, the greatest.

LOG IN. The aspects of sound that are most important to me are tonal accuracy, timbre, dynamics and transparency.. I have owned a xi at several of my homes over the years 4 If memory serves along with various components and it has always served the music well. My current purchase was to be temporary again until I decide on a new direction I had picked up a Krell SACD standard on the cheap a few months before and had also swung a great deal on a pair of Resolution 2 speakers. I am completely addicted and unable to stop buying and digging out music

Review Summary Sound "The KAVxi tends towards a slightly warm sound, never straying into a cool, sometimes clinical realm. It was rhythmic, fluid and smooth, and its clean delivery had me turning up the volume just to hear music energize my room. Even when played loud, the KAVxi never showed a sign of strain or compression. All circuitry up to the driver stage is pure class A. In its defense, it worked well and did everything I needed. As each new integrated goes into my system, I have expectations based on my experiences with those that have gone before. Each time I hear something I like, the performance bar is raised for everything that follows.
