Can anybody please: a confirm my intended approach is valid b tell me what the mini-amplifier I'm after is called c suggest a suitable candidate All advice greatly appreciated.

I have some desktop computer speakers - Edifier RDB's - which sound wonderful, but the low-end is lacking. They do, however, have a sub-port, but because i am in the middle of buying a whole new hifi system for the main living room, i cannot really rationalise pouring money into a Rel or BK sub. DIYalso seems a fun option, but perhaps a false economy for someone living in the U.
S based company , who do not ship overseas. Amazon will ship, but the cost is steep, which render the budget aspect more or less void. Dayton, for instance, have most of the parts - like budget plate amplifier's - but there are no retailers for them in the U. There is one in Germany, but they only stock the higher end stuff. I've found a Sub driver from a U. K company, which looks decent, but the trail for parts goes cold there. On the off chance other UK members have tried their hand at something similar, perhaps you could share alternative places for sourcing things like plate amplifiers, such as the Dayton Audio SA70 70W, or something similar..

If you go to Maplins you can get 2 pin DIN female connectors. Just wire them up and fix to your chosen amp with whatever connectors it needs or bare wire they come with screw fittings so you wouldn't even need to solder if you don't want to. Nowhere near Hifi really but remarkably warm and well sounding speakers! Actually, the older speakers generally seem to attract more and more attention and respect, probably amongst true lovers of vintage sound remember valves? A chain is no stronger than it's weakest link and so back then the speakers needed to be as good as absolutely possible, not just to do their part in the chain but even compensating somewhat for an inferior amplifier.

They're high end budget parts I would say, nothing crazy, and sound infinitely better than my TV on its own I've just moved flat, and my current speaker cable isn't long enough. I have two questions. Is it important that the speaker cable be the same length to all 5 speakers?
