Scientific fidelity tesla loudspeakers
Plasma speakers or ionophones are a form of loudspeaker which varies air pressure via a high-energy electrical plasma instead of a solid diaphragm. Connected to the output of an audio amplifier , plasma speakers vary the size [1] of a plasma glow discharge , corona discharge or electric arc which then acts as a massless radiating element, creating the compression waves in air that listeners perceive as sound. The technique is an evolution of William Duddell 's "singing arc" of , and an innovation related to ion thruster spacecraft propulsion. The term ionophone can also be used to describe a transducer for converting acoustic vibrations in plasma into an electrical signal. The effect takes advantage of two unique principles: [ citation needed ] Firstly, ionization of gases causes their electrical resistance to drop significantly, making them extremely efficient conductors , which allows them to vibrate sympathetically with magnetic fields. Secondly, the involved plasma, itself a field of ions , has a relatively negligible mass.

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. Can anyone identify these amps? My buddy just got his hands on these amps. Very sorry for the crappy resolution pics but I didn't have my camera with me so I captured these on my cellphone.
There are NO markings on these components anywhere. Our guess is to choose the inputs. Is it something to hold on to or just sell and pass on to the next lucky individual? Mick Maloney? The Aus designer of the famous --or infamous now defunct Supratek range? Rodan Audiophile Posts: Joined: October 30, Based on a quick check, I found the stuff you have was made by a company called MAN. They were pictured p. Couldn't find anything on the internet, though.
Hope this helps. Thanks Rodan! RE: Mick Maloney? RE: That's fascinating, posted on March 28, at I'd say keep them. Those are extremely interesting! Since you have already positively identified them As the blurb you found stated, Sci-Fi as they were popularly known started out by making speakers. They got off to a relatively good start.
Then they got a horrible review from Stereophile that killed the company. Look at the second comments from another reviewer, a rebuttal not only by the manufacturer but also the manufacturer of the tweeter!!
There are some peripheral measurements made of the Trillium amps what you have that show that they measure pretty badly also. Don't know how they sound, though. Anyway after the company died, Mike Maloney teamed up with somebody else and started the T. I think he left after a few years and I have no idea where he ended up. RE: Since you have already positively identified them Thanks Charlie! Interesting Info! Is that a Light Bright under the table in the last two pictures? Charles Hansen is, of course, correct: your friend's gear was made by Scientific Fidelity just shows you that you can't necessarily trust what's printed in The Absolute Sound!
I don't know if anyone is still checking this post but I have to say that my own Tesla I's are still singing like crazy. R "Hey, it's me!!! This is Mike Maloney, the designer of the amps and preamp in question. I believe there were only 9 sets made of the MAN electronics whereas there were 24 sets maid of the Sci-Fi electronics.
The MAN electronics were designed in and produced in , then reengineered and re-released by Scientific Fidelity in The correct driver tube should be a 12BZ7 a 12AX7 or 12AU7 will not swing enough voltage and will clip well before the output tubes. The output tubes should be KT 88s or s.
The outboard binding posts are 8 ohm, the binding posts closer to the input jack are 4 ohm. To set the output tube bias follow these instructions: 1. Set vote meter to mV DC 2. Connect one lead to red 4 ohm speaker terminal 3. Connect the other lead to the outside of the RCA input jack or the chassis 4. Turn screw between tubes and until meter reads mV or 0.
Unfortunately my insistence on an auto-bias circuit for the Scientific Fidelity version caused a slight degradation of performance especially under measurement tests with continuous sine waves.

You've probably never heard of s1nn, an audio engineering company based in Stuttgart. It's part of the giant Harman International group and was founded in by three former Bose employees and one from Harman. It was initially set up to develop unbranded in-car audio systems for car manufacturers, and has since branched out into telematics and connectivity systems as well as audio. But it's Tesla who has invited us to Stuttgart on this occasion to meet the team behind the standard and premium audio systems developed for its all-electric Model S saloon. Led by Michael Fabry, engineering manager for acoustic and audio systems, and Arndt Hensgens, chief engineer for advanced system research, s1nn was involved in the development of the Model S right from the beginning.
