Over the past decade Kevin Parker, the mastermind behind Tame Impala , has firmly established himself as one of our most vital and visionary songwriters. And, of course, the 12 tracks are now all eligible for consideration in one of the great music debates of our times: which Tame Impala song is the greatest? This very The Doors-meets-Cream creation was one of the first-ever Tame Impala songs to be recorded, and only featured on the very first and now extremely rare self-titled EP back in A stop-start knockabout of a tune that you could imagine Jimi Hendrix having a bit of fun with. Decent, but not entirely memorable.

In , the release of his third album, Currents , saw Australian Kevin Parker shoot from relative obscurity into the mainstream.

From their ears to yours, enjoy…. But this album is no woozy, lo-fi, low budget, rickety chillwave affair; no, this album has a dense, expansive sound designed as much for solo headphones trips as for stadium sized rock shows. Sure, they have their moments of bluesy, classic rock, but more than that the band embraces blurry guitar-scapes, hypno-grooves, and childlike melodies that get stuck in your craw. Form PPM.

Ten Years of Innerspeaker: Revisiting Tame Impala’s psychedelic debut

I was a passive fan of Tame Impala before Currents became my freshman-year obsession. Afterward I dove deep into Lonerism and InnerSpeaker with an eagerness to know him although others perform songs with Kevin Parker live, he creates all of the music that is released under the name Tame Impala better. While neither of them measured up to the mastery of Currents, I found a host of songs that I loved. By now Kevin seems to have discovered more of his own sound, and is trying less to imitate others. He produced, recorded, and mixed the entire album by himself. I imagine everyone around me moving at an accelerated speed while I stay still observing it all. It sedates me into a dream-like state of mind that continues throughout the rest of the album. The last two songs of the playlist once again fall back to back on Currents.

The new album, unauthorized leaks for which have appeared online in recent days, is the followup to 's Lonerism and 's InnerSpeaker.

Currents was released in July , the third studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala. Tame Impala, whose name not only perfectly slides off the tongue but is also a reference to a fictional encounter with an African species of antelope, is the brainchild and passion of Aussie auteur Kevin Parker. Bred in the highly active Perth music scene, Parker birthed Tame Impala as his vessel of musical expression circa In a recent interview with NME reflecting back on Currents at age 5, Parker recounts the experience of being at a wedding party and seeing people leave the dance floor when his music came on:.

To him, it signified the idea of being separate from the world — an outsider looking in. Not surprisingly, the outsider aesthetic plays a big part in Lonerism. In a lot of ways, the album feels like one of the more important statements in indie rock this year. It shows how psychedelic and dreamlike production qualities can complement great songwriting — not mask a lack of it. In other words, he played all the drums live. On Lonerism, he let go of those limitations.

Cracks in the pavement underneath my shoe I care less and less about and less about you No one else around to look at me So I can look at my shadow as much as I please All the kicks that I can't compare to Making friends like you're all supposed to. You will never come close to how I feel You will never come close to how I feel. Space around me where my soul can breathe I've got body that my mind can leave Nothing else matters, I don't care what I miss Company's okay, solitude is bliss There's a party in my head and no one is invited.

As this hot, languid summer takes hostage the streets of London and beyond - it's hard to listen to Tame Impala's debut album Innerspeaker and not hear it as the perfect musical accompaniment. Its swirling psychedelic grooves contain, at their core, perfect pop songs somewhat hidden beneath waves of tube fuzz and rolling snare. The album has a sheen not present on their previous recordings, which usually means a band has polished their sound to a point where they have removed some of the original charm. Tame Impala seem to buck that trend, instead using the studio to help widen their scope, revealing new vistas and propelling the listener further into a sun-stroked, dream like state.
