But in reality the delay when using Realtime UAD Processing is so small that for all practical purposes it can be considered as being zero latency — typically below three milliseconds at a 96kHz sample rate and maybe twice that at Another major feature that Apollo brings to the Arrow is Unison, which really is quite a big deal and is unique to UA. For example, when you track via one of the Unison-enabled plug-in emulations of, say, a preamp or guitar amp, the analogue input stage of the Arrow switches its impedance and gain-staging to replicate the behaviour of the modelled device based on component-level analysis of the original hardware. When you load a Unison-enabled UAD preamp, guitar amp or console plug-in, data within the plug-in instructs the Arrow on how to configure its input stage. The Arrow is billed as the first Thunderbolt 3 audio interface and is a two-in, four-out device.

Jeff Benjamin. Building on this momentum, the Arrow is also the first UA product to feature Thunderbolt 3 on board. Vintage King on YouTube has an excellent initial hands-on look at the Arrow below. Be sure to check out their blog post for additional details.
All of those details are fine and dandy, but sound quality and performance are two reasons that Mac users enjoy UA gear. Like other UA hardware products, the main panel features an interface dominated by the multifunction rotary encoder wheel, which allows you to easily adjust preamp or monitor levels.
As with other UA interfaces, what really makes this special is the combination of hardware and software. And these can be expanded upon by purchasing additional plugins. Image Credit: VintageKing. With Arrow, UA is at last offering what essentially amounts to a compact, bus-powered Apollo - no mains plug required. Eminently portable, then. Arrow is a Thunderbolt 3 device - the first of its kind, in fact. For PC users, the situation is less clear cut, of course, but there are now quite a few Thunderbolt 3-packing machines on the market, so just be very clear on your specs before you buy. The other consideration is the cable used to plug Arrow into the computer. What you lose in comparison to Apollo, then, is a pair of additional line outs and the eight-channel ADAT optical input. Workflow-wise, Arrow is identical to Apollo. Dedicated top-panel buttons switch the knob between controlling preamp input and monitoring output levels, and operate input selection, a high-pass filter, 48V phantom power, a 20dB pad, polarity inversion and stereo linking. The display area provides simple metering and function indicators, and pressing the knob launches Gain Stage Mode, for hands-on control of Unison plugins. The UAD-2 line-up comprises a comprehensive roster of astonishingly realistic classic hardware emulations, the same 14 of which are included with Arrow as with Apollo.

They were wrong for boosting. It was rude of them to not do what you said. Now come back to mommy for a nice binkey winkey. Anyone else excited for all the confused posts about their stats being shrunk when 6. The blank silver boxes in the rack are antenna splitters.

I already have Studio Classics from Waves, but I was an early adopter of the UAD-1 and still have a couple licenses from when Mackie owned the company I logged into my account and they're still there. I really loved the precision mastering compressor and would love to check out the Studer A plug, but my question is it worth it to do so when I already have the Waves versions? Anyone compare both? I haven't used UAD much. Some great plugins for sure and I wish I had access to some of them, certainly the more unique ones.

Circuit-perfect modelling of the vintage processors we all know and love married with UA's excellent converter technology particularly in the new Apollo X range provides the kind of 3D depth and feel you would only expect with a rack full of hardware processors. This simple mixer application makes it easy to set-up monitor and cue mix routing, making it a cinch to build complex tracking chains - all with full recall. Unison-enabled inputs and plug-ins when loaded into the special slot in Apollo Console control the input gain staging, impedance loading and various conditioning elements in the analog front-end of the Apollo. These work in errrr Your guitar will feel a little different under the finger tips.

And just like with any love affair, whether or not the Arrow will go straight to your heart or mortally wound your wallet depends greatly on your mindset — and financial status. I love mine but the relationship had a rocky start. Plugging in my guitar for the first time, I was blown away by the lack of perceived latency. My lust for Arrow was now in full bloom! That low price tag is deceiving…. The unit boasts two Unison pre-amps, which do sound great.
In recent times, there have also been some affordable hardware units in an attempt to make it more accessible to the masses. It is a Vactrol based optical compressor. The light up switches for VU meter sources and the LED gain reduction meter might seem gimmicky and take away from a vintage hardware unit image but they do serve their purpose pretty well. The compressor can be unlinked to act as two mono compressors and in stereo mode, the same gain reduction is applied to both channels. Why would you want one of these when you have dozens of up-to-date emulations in the box?
