I have to say when I opened the box, what I expected from reading the reviews and everything else I could find on it was true. Quality is what you see upon lifting this "heavy" piece of equipment out of the box! If I had another grand I would have bought the 2k model but I needed that other grand for some other items I am buying. I am getting an antenna and an auto tuner. Save your pennies, a whole lot of them by the way, but know that when you power this one up you will have a big smile on your face.
They are pretty expensive and it is a major investment but it only hurts once, lol. At least you can feel confident that you put that money to good use for an outstanding piece of equipment. Just about all the protection circuitry you need, even monitors the temperature with a varistor in the exhaust chute out the rear left top. It is dummy proof, just look at the specifications. At some point in the future I will probably get the big brother, but I am in no hurry.
I recently purchased the amplifier from DX Engineering. The amplifier arrived in perfect condition. Packing was more than adequate even when dealing with less than careful package handlers. The amplifier is very easy to tune. With only 40 watts drive I am getting watts of output power. The amplifier does not get hot even after several hours of rag chew on 80 meters. I have owned the amp for about 5 years. Easy straight forward tuning. The ACOM gives you a comfortable watts output on all amateur bands from through 6 meters.

acom 1200s review
The amplifier is incredibly easy to tune and it is built like a tank. The Acom is considered the best and most reliable 1kw amplifier on the market today. My first big amplifier and boy what a great unit! The only small whinge about this amplifier is the warm up time.

These can be a concern and that may have been what the original poster was concerned about? I suspect any of the newer amps last 20 years? All linears work with the What do you want and what are you willing to spend? Quality or not so quality. It is a matter of what you want.

Rating last days Total reviews Avg. This unit was used but only had 1 previous owner me being the second. Anyway, I set up the amp once I arrived home with it to test it out into a dummy load and all I can say is "WOW" this amp is awesome and better than any amp I've ever seen or used in the past, the build quality is top-notch and every single part just screams quality inside and out. The amp runs very quietly and stays cool even running at the full watts which is very easily managed driving it with the max drive of 60watts from my Icom Pro 3. This amp is very very quick and easy to tune and takes less than 10 seconds and you're done ready to transmit. Another good feature is the fact that it's completely idiot-proof with protection from operator error so no need to worry about it getting damaged as it will trip and give you time to correct the problem.
The solution uses electric band switching, such that both 6m and 4m operation can be maintained. This modification is not straight-forward and requires a fair amount of skill and proper tools. You can also perform a simple modification without the band swithcing. This will not allow you to use the amplifier on 6m.

The modified amplifier will deliver in excess of W on 4m with an input of 30 W. The tuning is a bit critical as it is on 6m.
